Default Death at the dunes

OCEANA COUNTY -- The Oceana County Sheriff's office is investigating a fatal single quad accident.

A 23-year-old Byron Center man was thrown from the quad and died from his injuries around 9pm Saturday.

The accident took place at the Silver Lake State Park dune area in Golden Township.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.

Condolences to the family, hopefully it wasn't anyone from here.

Edit/update

OCEANA COUNTY, MI — A West Michigan man was killed this weekend during an off-road vehicle accident in a state park dune area near Hart.

Scott Allen Silvernail, 23, of Byron Center, was ejected from his quad vehicle while riding alone in the Silver Lake State Park about 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31.

Oceana County deputies said Silvernail died at the scene from injuries sustained when he somehow lost control of the quad in the park's 450-acre off-road vehicle area.

A medical helicopter was placed on standby, but was not called to the scene.

Silvernail was the only person involved in the crash. Deputies said he was staying in the area for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Sad, condolences to family and friends.

I hope it was not the drop valley behind Test along the tree line that has killed two others this summer, if so, why hasn't the DNR at least put up a Caution sign.

My friend needs to text back! He's up there on his quad left friday. He can ride and has for a while, but I can see him doing something dumb because he hasn't been to the dunes in years.

Edit:He's alive and hungover at the moment

After 2 years with no deaths this is 5 deaths this year. 3 have died on the dunes, 2 died later at the hospital.

All these people wanted was a little fun for the day. Hug your family.

There was also a drop off midway down the directionals near the strip. When I was there in June they had it sectioned off with sticks/caution tape. However from what I understand one of the previous deaths was in this location.

God bless the family in their time of need.
