Default Any former or current Ferris State people on here?

If so, watch your mail. Evidently they got hacked and a bunch of info was stolen. They are giving everyone a one year free full subscription to one of those companies like lifelock only a different company. The letter looks like junk mail but it has the info in it on how to get the service. They said something like 60,000 names and SSN's could have been compromised.

I doubt any of my info from 8-12 years ago is even valid anymore, well maybe my SS# but that's about it.

Heard about this on WWJ this morning. They said addresses and SS#'s were taken.

I received the letter and took advantage of the credit monitoring. I was there from 98-02.

I went to Ferris for tennis camp back in the 1990s. Does that count?

Did the email cover how the information was compromised? My high school (class of 97) had all previous students information stolen.

It turns out a laptop that contained ALL alumni and I believe faculty info was stolen out of a car. Which begs the questions - 1) Why is that data stored locally on a laptop and not a central database and 2) Why wasn't that laptop encrypted?

I was pissed when I found out how my information was compromised. Security breaches do happen and I am more forgiving but leaving a laptop in a car with all the info is absurd.

How difficult was it to sign up for the protection?

This is the second shot at my info in 2 years. My employer got FOIA'ed and fired out an excel doc. Come to find out 2 months later that by expanding all columns it was our all of our info, obviously people don't know how to make pdf's.
