Default Cheapest place for a new battery?

I drained the battery in my Jeep one night last week. I charged it and it worked fine but then the Jeep just sat in the garage for about 5 days without driving it and now it doesn't seem to want to hold a charge.

I haven't bought a battery in at least a decade and all the prices I'm seeing online are much higher than I recall them being in the past. WalMart seems about the cheapest. What's the GL4x4 consensus on where to buy a battery?

Not the cheapest, but not much more than anyone else, go to interstate battery in troy. Fair prices and its a distribution center, so the batteries are always fresh (usually within a few months).

I'm pretty happy with my Napa agm battery. Penn deka rebadge fir $142 for the larger battery (group 65?). Otherwise Sears for an exide. Die hard agm is supposed to be pretty good too.

Just install a Honda 5hp generator with a pair of cables leading to the battery. Then you can pretend like you're a chopper pilot firing up the APU before you fire the main engine.

I'd do that but then I'd have to go whole hog and make my wife wait outside for me with a static discharge cable when I arrive home each evening.

To me a battery is something you shouldn't go on the cheap. Been having real good luck with Ac delcos. A friend works for a distributor. He brings me all that he gets from the dealerships. When the dealer goes to get a car if for some reason it don't start. Ie somehow the lights got left on. He brings them to me. When he replaces the "bad" one he takes it as a core. I in turn put it on the battery tender and if it test good I sell them if it's bad I give it back to him. I now have about 25 at the house. If you would like to see if I have one for you pm me.

Cheap is bad. We get a ton of cores from walmart/tsc tsc that are barely over a year old.

I've had good luck with the Autozone Duralast batteries. I went through 2 golds in my ZJ and I'm now running their platinum AGM in my truck.

I have a die hard that I bought 4 years ago. Used it in a jeep then in a wood hauler not getting much use for over 2 years. Then my fathers battery went out so he used it for over a year without a issue, then a family members battery went out so he used it for a few months.

I bought that family members car in this past July drove it down and parked it for 4 weeks not disconnecting it. Came back the 8th and it fired right up without issue(no drains ). I drove it for 3 days then parked it and I don't see a issue with it starting after sitting another month.

When it does go out I will gladly buy another die hard.

You get what you pay for. Spend a little extra now and don't worry about it later.

Having good connections is just as important then the components they connect. Always look at the cheap things before pointing at battery.

I know "cheapest" wasn't the best word choice. I don't want something that's going to leave me stranded on the first morning below zero.

I think I really just wanted to bitch about the increase in battery prices.

It looks like I'll probably go over to Sears at lunchtime or after work and pick up an AC Delco. I had forgotten all about Sears and their prices look pretty good, and most importantly, there is one about a block away.

our Duralast batteries are made by JCI (johnson controls) they aren't the cheapest, but we don't get alot of warranty swaps on batteries.

we can get the Duralast Platnium series, wich is an AGM for around $150

i just took the factory battery out of my 2002 super duty. its a group 65 motorcraft, made by johnson control. it was installed in march 2002. it still works fine, gave it to a friend. replaced it with another just like it. group 65 should fit most jeeps without too much modification, i just put another one just like it in my 2003 wj. a group 65 is about the biggest factory battery available.

die hard platinum is sweet but pricey!
oddssey batteries are sweet but pricey too.
good luck

another +1 for the duralast platinum or titanium, whatever they call them now.

buy one of the ones that's been discharged (by customer) and re-charged at the store. big savings (60-85$ for the battery iirc) and you still get the expensive 5 year warranty.

I'm running a Auto Value yellow top battery that's a rebadged Deka AGM. Was cheaper than the Optima and was on the shelf the day I needed it.

It's outlasted 2 optima yellows on Jeepm715's buggy.
