Default iphone or droid upgrade ?

Please help me decide which phone to get, I am not a smart phone guy,

Looking to upgrade from the old just texting cell phone to a new i-phone or droid, need some feed back, pros/cons, which phone works better for offroad forum sites ?

I see a lot of post in threads where people can not upload/link pics to there posts but can text or e-mail, which phone is best to use in this situation ?

cheers Robin

i bought my wife a LG Optimus and she hates it, told her to give it time and get used to it and it sits on the counter while she plugs away at her old phone.
I love the Droid, its a mini-computer in your hands.

This will be debated forever. It's personal preference. It really depends what you want to do with the phone. My wife and I have both. They both have their pros and cons.

One thing you can't debate is how many of the apps I get for free for Android she has to pay for for Iphone. But there are a lot of good Iphone apps that are not available for Android at all.

I think the Iphone operating system is more stable in general. Less pauses, freezes, slow operating, etc. I think that has to do with how they filter all their apps for the Appstore, where with Android, its a completely free marketplace and nothing stops people from putting junk apps on there that cripple your phone's performance.

I like that I can use a bluetooth adapter to view and clear OBD codes as well and monitor all the engine parameters. Not available on Iphone.

Maps and navigation seems to work much better for Android, although this last update has been a bit frustrating lately. I use that a lot. My wife hates this on her Iphone so much that she dug out our old Garmin GPS and put it back on the windshield.

I think the Iphone might be easier to just pick up and start using. They're good reliable phones. The android phones now have more bells and whistles which some consider useless fluff. It depends on you. Go into the store and test drive them.

And on that note, I sure wish my phone was as fast now as it was the day I bought it. I frustrating that all these sweet apps are available, but the most you put on, the slower and more problematic your device becomes.

I have a droid and I love it. I bought a droid tablet as well because of it. Make sure you get a good one. The optimus in todays maket is old news. (well I think there is a new one out now) I had a htc one v for a little bit and that was a sweet phone. I phone you can turn into a wifi hotspot, you will have to root a droid to do that. (depending on the carrier and phone)

They each have their pro's and cons. I like things about my buddies iphone, and I like things about my droid.

You really need to try both.

I have Droids, but have used other people's Iphones. I don't feel there is a huge amount of difference in how to use them, gestures are similar, icons are similar- no surprise since Google went out of their way to copy the iphone experience.

If you go droid- avoid the 'large screen, low price' trap. All you are getting is a large screen on a 3 generation old phone. Shop the processor and memory specs.

I would just like to make a correction. There is a Bluetooth OBD code reader App for iPhone one of which is free you only need to get the Bluetooth adapter device. I agree that he navigation app that is standard on iPhone sucks but the easiest solution is to get the more simple Google maps(free). I went from a Android to iPhone and probably won't go back. Mostly because the hole family (3 daughters with iPods and the wife's iPhone)shares apps and music on iCloud. Which also means I can locate them in minutes If I need to or they loose it which happens more often then I would like. I think that iPhones are easy to operate and seam to have less operating problems when compared to coworkers Androids.
I also agree that this debate will go on until they invent the next best thing. I would say the only thing is to just go and play around with both. I think it depends on you service provider also. A lot of my friends and coworkers like the larger screen sizes available with Droids you cant get with iPhone. Some like the apps on iPhone better. It will never end. So It's a complete personal preference just like buying a Ford or a Chevy.

iOS 7 is coming out for iPhone shortly. My nephew has gotten ahold of the beta version for testing. Its pretty sweet. More multi tasking operations integrated into the phone.
Myself I do have and would prefer the iphone. My brotherinlaw has the droid. His phone seems complicated to operate compared to the iphone.

If you like technology, but don't like the learning curve or don't have the wherewithall to learn the technology, go with iPhone. It's easy, but you are limited to what you can do with it, when compared to Android. Making your own ringtones, grouping icons, shortcuts, installing apps, this is not customizable on the iPhone as much as it is on the Android.

If you like to dive into what technology you get, get Android.

My mom has an iPhone. I hate it. I don't know how to use it. First time I picked it up, I tried to use it. Noooooo wayyyy Lol

I have a Droid Razr maxx (the older one) and I love it. I've had it a year, and don't know if I am going to upgrade when the time comes. This is a great phone and I have not had any REAL problems with it. My GF has a Samsung galaxy (the newest one) and the camera on it is FAWKING AMAZING!

how can you not operate an iPhone? they are way simpler than android!

I have the Razr Maxx as well and I cant stand it, I am really tough on phones but mine gives me problems all of the time. I have deleted almost all of my apps that didnt come with the phone and it is still incredibly slow for only being 1.5 years old. I am going to get the new iPhone at the end of September when it releases.

I was getting pretty disappointed with everything in the world accessory wise being made for iPhones and pretty much nothing for the Android phones.

That was until I discovered this new technology called Bluetooth. I guess I had always though of Bluetooth being for mice, keyboards, and the goofy hands free cock knob devices. Now I have a Bluetooth receiver that plugs into the aux port on any of my stereos and I stream Spotify through that. Granted it lacks the integrated functionality that a lot of devices put in for iPhones. But it's a hell of a lot better than the 3.5mm cables.

I've had the Droid, Droid X, and Razr Maxx. All have been great phones, but according to all the bitching and whining I see on Facebook YMMV.
