If we assume there is no God then the answer is just as cold and heartless as the god you call a dickhead. Weather you say "life happens" or "it was just thier time". Is it easy? No. Is it fair? Hell no.

To blame your disbelief on something because it's not fair or doesn't seem right to you is the equivalent of the kid in line at the grocery store who is screaming because they want the candy bar (who's parents know it's not good for them). Do they understand why? no. Does that mean you should give them everything they want? Absolutely not.
Bullshit! God is a cocksucker if he exist and allows this to happen. You can spew all the mindless Christian doublespeak you want, I will never change my mind. When it comes to the how the kids have died (that I've observed), all the feel good, God is love, Jebus loves you shit goes right out the fuckin' window. God is hate, God is pain, God is suffering, and God is sorrow. You can put as much sugar on a pile of shit that you want, end the end it's still going to taste like shit.

Further proving my point about the kid in line crying because they didn't get the candy bar.

Some might even argue that they were spared from living in a world that is so messed up.

You're being very emotional about it, which is understandable, but if those children died and there is no God, all they did was die. No reason behind it, no fairness to it.

If God does exists and allowed to those kids to die then I can find rest that his purpose is far past my understanding and that he will judge those tho need to be judged (as in, they caused the kids to die) when thier time comes.

A mature child understands that they may not completely know why thier parents don't want them to do something but trust that thier parents have the best in mind for them.

No, you caused me to question my faith in Chair, and it failed me when I needed it the most.

Proving that your faith is ill-placed. Your blind faith in chair lead to disappointment. Perhaps the God of the universe is a bit more trustworthy/deserving of your faith?

I've moved away from the Church of Chair.

It seems that Chair was pretty much always full of asses.

On a more serious note- I grew up listening to my grandfather reading from the Bible every Sunday evening. I went to church with the neighbors when I was kindergarten age, and even studied the bible when I was in high school because the girl I was dating was 'born again' and I wanted to at least be able to converse with her.

Through all of that, there was never a time where any of it made the least bit of logical sense.

I do realize that the religious take religion seriously, I am glad that the people posting in this thread can voice their beliefs and not get overly offended by the jokes.

I follow science because science says 'This is what we believe until someone can disprove it'. Religion says 'This is what we believe, period'.

Grew up on a farm in Canada, came to Detroit during Prohibition, drove a cab to the riverfront a lot... got into boxing from his cab driving connections. After a few years of that, got a job at Chrysler and was an early union organizer. Worked at Chrysler, retired from Chrysler in 68. Wasn't a church going man, but read the Bible daily and was very religious. He and my father would have lengthy bible 'discussions', but I don't remember them because my father left when I was 2 yrs old.

My grandfather is where I got my sense of right and wrong. One thing he did that I remember my grandmother having a fit about was he would 'raffle' his paycheck, and any money that was over the amount of the check he gave to a neighbor who was ill and could no longer work to support his family. She was pissed that he didn't keep the money. His viewpoint was that he had a roof over his head, clothes on his back, and food in his belly- but the neighbor could not provide that for his family and it would be morally wrong for a Christian not to try to help.

Sounds like an honorable man. Sounds intelligent and true. Worth imitating. Perhaps Grandpa would encourage your reading the Bible, knowing more of God's will for you, and acting in response to the good word as he did. Bless you.

It's a little hard to explain how I came to be an atheist with my background, only way I can explain it is that religion didn't answer my questions.

But, I can understand why a Christian would work very hard to help me 'save my eternal soul'... because a Christian would not want to see another person miss out on the Kingdom.

Something for another thread sometime- people who become religious near the end of their life- seeing the light, or hedging their bets?

This is what it is all about, well said Bloomule
I hope more people like "you" could understand why Christians reach out to others for the very reason what you posted and not get offended.

Yes, I 'get' Christianity, I just don't truly believe it. To claim to be something I don't believe in would make me a hypocrite, and I think there are enough of those already.

I started believing again and my IQ dropped again, but at least I'm happier, healthier and will live longer, and most of all, will not be a mentally ill atheist.
