Good luck with that. Something tells me you'll be very successful in that endeavor.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to change their beliefs, just trying to make people more aware of how I reach the conclusions I've come to. Its also kind of a mental exercise. Like going for a walk, you don't actually accomplish anything, but its good for you.

That's pretty much my stance, I enjoy hearing WHY people believe what they believe.

I've also been told by some deeply religious people I know that these debates are healthy as long as they don't degenerate into name calling. It helps the devout reaffirm their beliefs.

Also, does anyone believe who hasn't had any special revelation, just believes because that's what they were brought up to believe? That's my scenario, my parents started taking me to church when I was 7 or 8 due to guilt from my Grandma, so I was a Christian through HS. Then I started to actually think about it...

You didn't have a revelation, that's why you began to doubt and as you put it "think".
Once Jesus touches you, you'll never be the same.

Do you ever read stuff aloud before you post it?

Maybe if I put it in lamans terms you could grasp what I am saying
I suppose you don't speak Christianese.
Going through life sometimes we are impacted by somebody(for you/Darwin?) and what they do or have done to help us in one way or another. Usually it is what they have done to us or for us. It has such an impact that it changes our outlook on life and we change the way we view life and it changes how are walk through life, being it positive or negative.
Can't say if that has ever happened to you but as I said, when Christ touches you, your heart, it moves you to the very core of how you view life and yourself.
That is what God in your life can do for you and only God can do that.
You may get a new bike and it is the greatest thing ever, for a short time then the novelty wears off and it's the same old.
Your soul thirsts for more and only Christ can fill that void.
And yes I did read this whole thing out loud, 2x

I had a revelation when I owned a tow truck business. After witnessing more than on child's head smashed or body crushed in a car accident, I realized that if there is a god, it is a complete and irrefutable dickhead for allowing innocent children to die in such a manner. And yes, I meant to type IT instead of him.

I grew up in the church, Catholic, but it was understood in our family not to be a big deal, and we stopped attending. It was in my later teens years I questioned God and discovered faith for the first time.

Mike, what convinced me was a look in the mirror. I came to understand that God had a standard for the world. I understood that I broke that standard and was therefore a sinner. I wanted to please God upon understanding his love for me, but I knew I would never do good enough to please him. I understood for the very first time what the Bible ACTUALLY teaches about how we get to heaven.

It was after believing in Jesus that I was convinced of the accuracy of the Bible, the validity of the faith, the science supporting young earth theory, etc. The longer I have been a Christian, the more reasearch I have done, the more and more and more I am convinced that Jesus Christ is God, that he is the master of the universe, and we need to act accordingly. Last I checked that percentage of knees that will bow and tongues that will confess is rather high. I am done being a rebel. I bow down gladly, confess my own weaknesses and shortcoming and trust Christ.

It is always the same old arguments with the same old jabs with the same old rusty dagger.
Bottom line we still argue and kill over religion and use it as an excuse.

So you never had a scenario where god talked to you?

Innocent Children die every day, not matter if there is a God or not.

If we assume there is no God then the answer is just as cold and heartless as the god you call a dickhead. Weather you say "life happens" or "it was just thier time". Is it easy? No. Is it fair? Hell no.

To blame your disbelief on something because it's not fair or doesn't seem right to you is the equivalent of the kid in line at the grocery store who is screaming because they want the candy bar (who's parents know it's not good for them). Do they understand why? no. Does that mean you should give them everything they want? Absolutely not.
