2007 NBS interior leak

I recently had an interior leak in my NBS 07 silverado, found out it was the 3rd tail light on the cab that was the culprit. Stained the headliner, etc. etc. Now, my issue. All I had yesterday to do a fix was some Automotive Goop. I'm thinking I f'd up by putting this stuff on, been on there about 14 hrs now. Will this stuff come off in the future? Seems like it's setting up pretty hard. I know I should have used a silicone sealant, but it was going to rain again today and didn't want the interior to get wet, again, and stores in the rural UP close at 5 or earlier. Should I remove it NOW before it sets up further??

I think the Goop products stay plyable for the most part. Just to be safe get some clear silicone on hand, and remove the goop whan you get a chance asap.

That goop doesn't harden up that much; that only problem will be getting it off the plastic; just use a heat gun to warm it up before you try to remove it then throw on some silicone sealant

Thanks for posting this!! I JUST noticed my 2009 headliner has a bit of staining and I was wondering where it was coming from/why it was there. I'll be sealing up my tail light.

PIT4160: Headliner Leaks Water Or Is Wet - keywords back cargo center CHMSL crack lamp light roof screw stop - (Oct 20, 2006)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:Some early built, prior to 10/1/06, Oshawa (1 in vin position # 11) 2007 LD Crew Cabs may experience water intrusion in the headliner area. This may be due to an over-torqued grommet in the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL).

Recommendation/Instructions:To correct, loosen and re-tighten both screws that secure CHMSL to back of cab.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

I just went and looked at it, and hasn't gotten any harder. I peeled some of it off, seemed to come off relatively easy. However, I took out the bolts, and tried to take it off, that bastard is definitely glued to the truck. I'd have to use a razor blade and ruin the rubber/foam gasket between the lamp housing and truck to get it off. Fawk. I guess I'll just clean up my mess a little and deal with it when a bulb goes out. I LOVE fixing shit! NOT. Lesson learned: Use silicone on vehicles, not an 'adhesive', if you want to take it apart for maintenance. I feel so dumb right now...

There was a visible gap betwen the gasket and metal when I started. The gasket is garbage to begin with.
