Default Any bow fishing guys here?

I have an old bear first strike bow that I never got good enough with to want to hunt deer with, I know it isn't worth more than $30 so I've been sitting on it for a few years. I have a friend at work who has a couple buddies that bow fish. I was wondering if I can easily turn my bow into a fishing bow and what setup is the best value as I don't need the best but I know you get what you pay for and I don't want junk.

You can buy a conversion kit with arrow and reel for about $100. I started with a pop bottle to wrap the string around. I prefer the muzzy arrows with the wire barb tip.

I was looking at this setup, there is also a $30 setup that looks like you use a fly fishing type reel mom ted out in front of the bow like a counterweight.

AMS makes a nice reel that will bolt on where a quiver would have, they sell it as a kit with an arrow at gander mtn for around $80. You'll also need to pick up a roller style arrow rest. I agree with the wire style "river" tip.

Carp and sucker mostly, sometimes you get a dogfish.

I would go with one of the AMS reels if you even are remotely serious about it. It will get old fast spooling the line back on to something by hand..

AMS reals are they only way to go. Every other option is fairly dangerous not to mention slow to wind up and take a second shot. Using a zebco real is fast but stupid dangerous.

Broken record. What everyone said.

Gar, goldfish, dogfish, carp are the staples for bowfishing. Had a blast doing it memorial weekend.

Hard not to get addicted when a buddy shoves a $1300 bow setup strictly for bow fishing... one of them compound recurve dealios. Was his dad's bow. Scared to even hold it at first for fear of losing it in Saginaw bay
