Sorry to hear about your brother and mother Jim.

As far as Oxford getting an offroad park goes, I can't say that I'm surprised.

If ORV's cause cancer and crime, spoons really are making us all fat.
Holy cow! I'm throwing all of mine away right now!

I want to tell all you hard working wheelers how proud I am of your professional approach with these people. How proud I am of the way you all held your heads up, remained calm, cool and collected while these misinformed idiotic people screamed nonsense and lies at you.

You guys are awesome!

I'm like, no shit, you live in Mt. Morris.

If the state looks to put this park at another site in Oakland County,, I hope the OCP&R group decides to seek guidance from the people who would use the facility, and from people with an understanding of what the issues are going to be with residents, and how to address them. I honestly believe if they would have distanced themselves from the mounds, it would have been a better sell.

When the chairman told the parks and rec, DNR, and land engineer that they had a total of 10 minutes to present their case, I had a feeling the board already had their mind made up.

R&V would have been a much better example of what the park would be like.
I understand that it isn't in OC, but, a MUCH better example none the less.

and since you mention being louder about it im pretty sure I rubbed one of the board members since he quoted specific verbaige from my speech and than made a negative comment about out of towner's speaking in his town.

Jim, I sat with Jon and a few others after the meeting and he is still 100% for a SE area. he realizes that there is a demand and need and that demand and needs have not yet been met. This is the end for Oxford. This is not the end for OCPR involvement.

At the end of all of this I have realized that even tho we did not win this battle of location this is still a victory for the ORV community. we have not only the local government wanting to be involved but we also have the state. and the two entities are working together. That in its self is a huge victory for us.

Thank you VERY much for all the people that showed up and have helped out during this process.
I didn't show Because I had more important things to do Dana...and it's VERY clear your calm level headed approach didn't work

This sounds exactly like the type of township board issues that Kids in the Mudd had a few years ago. I attended alot of those township meetings. Sounds like the boards are one in the same.

The Board had made there decision before the meeting ever started.

Although thanks, please don't turn this into a pity party for me. I shouldn't have posted it. Was just feeling low.

Charlie, it would have been nice if you would have come and showed us how it's done.

Yup, the decision was already made & I caught on when the one board member I talked to before the meeting told me he lived across from the property and didn't want it. I had asked if he could get me in to speak early because of a family issue & he was like "no problem". Translation = no threat, it's a done deal.

We got played.

Sounds like some abusive of power going on in the board there. If I lived in Oxford township they would be hearing from me as I don't support agendas of individuals.

I was left with a bunch of questions after the parks and rec did their presentation. They also failed to repeat that this was simply to get into a testing phase.

The board also did what they were elected to do, and that is to represent their constituents. I did not hear a single local resident state that they wanted the park in their back yard.

I don't think Oakland county (or Wayne or Macomb) have a more remote area...

although there are signs along I75 in the Fenton area of 500+ acre for sale, dont' know anything about it though. My understanding is that turning a gravel pit into an ORV area would be much easier then turning anything else into one, considering all legal and environmental issues.

this is true,

I work with a couple residents, and they were pro ORV park, I will have to ask why they wouldn't go and tell the board they wanted it. I told them about the meeting, and how it really needed some local residents in the meeting to show the board they wanted it. I guess they didn't care enough.

Like CC said, they did what their residents wanted, that's what they are voted to do. If any of the residents wanted this, then some of them needed to show up and say that. It was in their local paper lots lately, so they knew it was a possibility.

I am not knocking anyone that went to attempt to get this pushed through, first and foremost. So if I came off like I was knocking those that tried, I apologize. However I have never seen the calm approach work at these township level meetings...EVER!!! Those meetings are not for the two sides to sit down and have a discussion in an attempt to make an informed decision. They are there to put on record what your gut feeling is. You could have told those residents they would earn profit sharing monies generated by the park in the tune of tens of thousands of dollars a year and they still wouldn’t have budged. Secondly as much as I like the idea of another ORV park, I wouldn’t want a Mounds in my back yard.
