Default 1998 5.9 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9 (Rare edition). This means that it has the 5.9 (360) v8 with 46RE auto transmission and AWD qudra-trac transfer case. This jeep is in great shape! very little rust!!! It has new tires, just did a tune up as well which includes plugs, cap/rotor, air filter, pcv, oil/filter change, transmission filter/fluid change, front diff lube. I also just replaced the water pump with a new unit, not reman. Has a new thermostat as well. Intake gasket and plenum plate replaced with upgraded Hughes unit as this is a weak spot on the 5.9s. Also did a timing chain cover gasket as well as replaced the balancer. So pretty much all the main issues with 5.9s are addressed. The jeep has a new Bosch (OE) fuel pump and Ford 24# fuel injectors (new). Also swapped the valve cover gaskets, heater bypass tube, and other misc items when doing this work. This jeep runs awesome! It does need need some minor work though. I bought thinking I would lift it and turn it into an off road rig, but after looking at the condition I've decided I should sell it to someone who may want to keep it stock and try to restore/collect this rare niner. It currently has 124K miles. Everything works on the jeep with the exception of the driver's side heated seat.

It will need brake rotors as they pulse when slowing. The battery is a bit out dated as well, still works fine. The front bumper cover has a crack in it. The rear wiper motor is sometimes operational. Also the rear hatch is a bit tricky at times. There is a bit of rust on the bottom, inside lip of the rear hatch as well. I currently have the front drive shaft pulled as I believe the viscous coupler is heading south (do a google search to learn more about this common issue). I was planning on swapping a 242 transfer case in so you could have 2wd/4wd options. Plus better milage! I do have the drive shaft and can reinstall if you'd like. I can perform the work needed to get this rig 100% for parts/labor cost or you can buy it as is and drive home and work on it when you have time! Super rare jeep that is a blast to drive!!

Was $5,500 OBO
Now $3,500

Well I just got done doing quite a bit of work on the ZJ. I had to replace the timing cover gasket. That was the coolant leak! So pretty much tear into the whole front half of the engine. I also then decided to while I was at it to add a Hughes plenum plate (common problem for 5.9). So it has all new gaskets and seals on the top/front of the engine more or less. I also changed out t-stat, water pump, some misc hoses, has a new harmonic balancer, and idler pulley, valve cover gaskets, and I'm sure there is more I'm missing.

Now the jeep still needs to have the brakes looked at and possible fuel pump is starting to go out. I will keep tinkering with the jeep when I get time. I have lowered the price to compensate for the work required. I'm asking $4,800.

Thanks

The 5.9 was produced for only one year, 1998. It was jeeps top of the line SUV and had claimed the title for worlds fasts SUV in production until the SRT-8 WK came out in 2006. There was only 13,000 produced in 1998 and supposedly only half or even less than half are remaining (registered owners). So this is 1 out of roughly 7,000 registered? I thought it was quite rare maybe not to some.

Alright today I got it running like it should be. I installed a new Bosch fuel sending unit (complete not just pump) $240, and I installed a set of rebuilt (ASNU?) ford #24 injectors $120. Runs great! I also did an oil change and transmission fluid/filter change. Still needing front rotors (not horrible yet). I also noticed a slight rear main leaking oil. Could be something higher up as well.

Still for sale! Super clean underneath and all around for being a wisconsin rig! Please feel free to make an offer or ask any questions.
