Default Went to a MI DNR Range for the first time...

Have they always had the 6 shot rule? Between that and the 1 shot every 3 seconds rule it made for a not so fun experience trying to sight in a rifle.

Been that way as long as I can remember, but I think the first time I went to one was only like 7-8 years ago.

Actually I think it was one second between shots, not every 3.

No matter what gun you bring you cannot have more than 6 cartridges in it at a time.

So if you bring your pistol with a 17 shot, or even 10 shot mag, you cannot load it with more than 6 shots.

This is from the range rules:

"Up to six rounds may be loaded in the magazine and chamber, with a minimum of three seconds required between shots. Range officers may suspend this permission, based on his/her discretion, when conditions exist that may compromise the safety of the shooters and others."

Based on a recent case in Traverse City (Hoosier Valley) the DNR has the ability to adopt regulations specific to a certain shooting range. Seems kind of subjective, but I guess that is the case in any property management. In TC they are considering magazine limitations, which is ridiculous, and regulations on hours, which I can understand. Limits on shots per second also seems pretty ridiculous.

I am assuming the OP is talking about a similar, informal type of shooting area on state forest.

That is a crock of shit. Why are you not allowed to use legal magazines to enjoy your sport on public land that your tax money helped buy/maintain? Grrrr.

There is a gravel pit in lapeer just down the road from lapeer dragway. no dnr no rules just set up and shoot. courtesy to other shooters is about the only rules there is. it's about 80 yards from the blocks they have to the furthest point up the hill.

Especially when I went out there with 4 - 30 round mags pre-loaded all my pistols loaded, and my shotgun loaded

I had to unload my mags to shoot

I shot 12 times and left.

What range were you at?

Does this apply to all DNR ranges?

I was at Rose Lake outside of Perry. However it appears Island Lake and Bald Mountain have the same rules, the others I do not know if they are the same or not.

You talking about "The pit"? There is DNR there from time to time, and the only rule is paper, clays, or cardboard. I like gong there more than anywhere else, also when its busy, or non safety conscious people are out there, i shoot down the street, then down the 2 track and shoot ina few different spots in the woods.

Before they closed Pointe Mouliee, it was one shot loaded at a time.

Even in a 1911.

Why would 1 shot every 3 seconds make it shitty sighting in a rifle? If you are shooting faster than that you are probably doing a shitty job sighting it in.

On a side note, this is why I don't go to bald mountain anymore. I like to rapid fire at least a few rimes while out at the range, mostly just the 22 since anything else costs to much to run a mag through in 3 seconds.

Exactly... it gets boring if you don't knock out at least a few rounds. I'm not talking as fast as you can pull the trigger but quicker than 1 every 3.

I can confirm that this is the rule out at Island lake and at the DNR run range in Sharonville (Chelsea), although I haven't been to Sharonville for 1-1.5 years. Doubt it changed.

I frequent Island lake probably more than most, but only because it's convenient. And I'll be honest, given some of the characters I've seen out there, I see why they're so stringent about things. No more than 6 rounds and time duration are over the top though in my opinion.

FWIW, I always load atleast 10-12 into what ever I bring (I know, rebel), and as long as I don't rapid fire I've never been hassled....
