Default Anybody have a Roku?

I'm looking to drop our cable service to save some money and had my eye on a Roku. I've gone through their website as well as Hulu's and Amazon's to see what content is provided but neither seemed to list everything. We generally watch network tv, which I could get over the air but I was wondering if there is access to shows that are on channels like AMC, History, Discovery, Spike, Speed.

Anybody have one? Would you call it a good replacement for cable? We don't watch a lot of tv, but the shows we do watch are all on different stations.

we have one. we watch hulu+ on it but it depends what you are looking for. Problem where i'm at is without cable, the company rapes you on internet so I might as well just have cable also.

Most of the time I would download what i want to watch and just stream it to my ps3 or apple tv. Roku won't let you stream via the computer. well not easily anyways .

For the Amazon content you should be a prime member right? I let mine expire last year but it might be worth signing back up.

A lady I work with uses her blue ray to stream too, I know another guy who just bought a smart TV and it does all of these things too.

I would probably use our bluray player too, we have one on each tv and they both get all the same stuff.

i havent played with those stations since last spring, back then I signed up for a few of them, netflix, hulu, and something else. I got bored with the selection offered in a couple weeks. unless things have changed, they really didnt offer much aside from shitty movies... I dont think we are at a point where it compares to cable tv yet

I will have to re-evaluate it though, I have amazon prime and never knew they had a station

We use our wii to stream Hulu + and Netflix.

16$ a month and able to watch the shows whenever > 50+$$ a month for cable

You still need an Internet provider for roku, verdad? So once you buy cable internet its only like $10 for basic cable...

I have old school roku that gets used every day. The only channels that are worth a shit are netflix, amazon and a couple old kung fu and cowboy movie channels. I don't have hulu so i can't comment. The rest are garbage

Where I'm at, the only local channel I can pick up is Channel 5 from Flint. So we have Hulu + to watch network TV, basically. I also like watching The Daily Show/ Colbert Report /Misfits/ etc. that are on Hulu +.

We really enjoy being able to watch the shows on our schedule instead of when they were aired, too.

We have it and we love it. We cancelled our Comcast cable and just use Roku, the channels that come over the air, and Comcast internet now. We thought we were only paying $10 more for cable with our internet but turns out we now pay about $50 less and have faster internet - it just took asking a couple questions and insisting that we did not want cable.

If you have Amazon Prime the Amazon channel is nice on Roku - plenty of free movies and cheap movie rentals.

X2. Its not looking good. Ive had the internet based Netflix and the choices were horrible, hardly any new releases, just stupid movies that nobody would want to qatch for the most part. I'll assume tv shows are the same way and I'd be better off just watching them on the networks website.

I have not seen a channel for Discovery, History, Spike, Speed.....but I would think there will be something sometime - or some shows from those networks sometimes do or eventually might show up on netflix/hulu/amazon.

Nobody is directly answering the question because those of us with a roku are wondering what the fukc OP is talking about. There are no channels for discovery/history/speed, etc as far as I know. At least not on my unit.

Ever since netflix lost their contract with starz the movie selection has gone to shit. If I didnt have kids i would have probably already dropped netflix, but they have shitloads of kids shows and it saves me from having to expose my young uns to the stupid shit and advertising on Disney and nickelodeon cable channels.

I understand there are no channels. But I'd think you could answer if the programming that is normally available on those channels, is available with the Roku setup.

Thanks, wakebabe
