Go to a "nice area" of Detroit while wearing a neon track suit.

Find a large group of colored people then yell something racially offensive (your choice) from across the street.

More intense then tough mudder, more obstacles and its free!

Even if you are not competing, how can you "push yourself" without quantifying it somehow?

When I did my tri I knew I wasn't going to place well, but that was ok.. I set a personal goal that was achievable with hard work and dedicated training. Because of the clock, I was able to know if I met it or not and truly push myself to get there. You can't do that if you have to wait for obstacles and they don't time it, thats my big hang up on trying one of these.

You can't tell if you're pushing yourself, or letting your mind quit before your body?

So does Hero Rush.

Try this for me (and actually do it) and don't read ahead.

raise your hand as high as you can.

now raise it higher. I bet you did didn't you.

The point being is you can equate "pushing yourself" with raising your hand the first time, and doing so for a time or finish with the second. You had to (and could) push harder because you had something to measure it against, a bar so to speak.

My world is all about quantifying things, productivity, outcomes, budget, etc. Are you meeting productivity?
yes
By how much?

Are you improving patient care?
yes
Prove it.

You get the idea, if you can't measure against something, you can't show progress, value, trending etc..

I'm not saying these are not worth doing, just not something I could get all geared up for.

It's also for a good cause......The Wounded Warrior project, that's why the Tough Mudder started because of the men and women that have gone overseas and fought for those of us who couldn't or haven't gone into the military.

All local people who put it on. The race was 2 weekends ago and was a blast with all their hills there.

Fine, one out of the 11 people on our team became ill. Guess for once I knew when to keep my mouth shut.
