Default Home AC Thread

The AC in my house has been just short of aweful for the past couple years.

And basically just stopped working.

There was almost no air coming out of the vents.

There was ice on the line coming out of the A-coil, which is either low on refrigerant or a clogged A-coil.

So I cleaned the A-coil, it had a black carpet on the inside of it and an aweful smell.

Its blowing like new again.

This is the first cleaning it has had since being installed in 98.

I wonder if this might help with the sinus infections I am prone to getting, on my third one right now for 2013.

I use a good quality filter but I think I was stoopid and did not run for a little while when I pulled a dirty one out and forgot to get a new one right away.

I had to cut the front of the A-coil box open to get in there to do this fun job. I took off the small cover on the back first and pulled of the cover on the A-coil but there are copper tubes on the back that did not allow much room to do much from that side. At least it will be easier next time.

I also had to pull all the insulation out of the furnace beneath the A-coil because it was coming apart and there was a decent amount of the foil backing stuck to the A-coil. Do I need to replace it or will it be ok with out it?

Is there a spray type cleaner I can use to disinfect the A-coil?

Or an antimicrobial?

I used to have a nice hangout area in my basement. I need to reclaim it from myself and all the shit I put down there. Used to sleep down there in the summer, nice and chilly.
