Get the parts you need and have a reputable local guy who knows his shit build it for you....most of the kits are for short rod strokers anyways.

5.3, 4l60e, np241, wiring, and ecu all from doner truck. swap to car accessories and an LS1 intake. probably looking at $1500 for everything. you'll probably need to address fuel delivery, cooling system, and a few other things.

stroker costs a decent chunk to build.

stock used junkyard 4.0 is $168 at the LKQ u-pull it in dorr.

Not really sure what I need to make a powerful yet reliable stroker but I will ask on jeep strokers thanks. That's the cheap way to do it but I don't want an auto that's the problem. Stock 4.0 with how many miles for that price?

Replacing those 3.73s with 4.56s will make more of a difference than a 300hp stroker.

Much more reliable!

I went from 3.07s to 4.11s and it felt like I traded my heep for a dragster!

I have driven a 4.5 stroker w/ mild cam and it was awesome! That's nothing more than a 4.2 crank in a 4.0.

IMHO, your going to plop a $2500 stroker(assuming you can build it) in front of 3.73s and that might give you the ability to keep up with a bone stock Cherokee on the road. Maybe!

Regear!

This confuses me. I ran stock 373 gears and 32" tires for 30,000 miles with my stroker and I promise you no stock cherokee was keeping up.
I switched to 456 and it will pull a house with better then stock gearing, but... I can tell it's slower in city driving now. Why? Because I spend all my time shifting and first gear is useless on the street.

Regear!
If he has 307 gears he can score 410s from a 4cyl tj for cheap, then spend the big money on a brand new stroker. I wouldnt consider putting a stock 4.0 in anything after building a few strokers. I also wouldnt put a used 4.0 newer then 96 in anything unless it was almost free. The new ones have too many pistons busting, heads cracking, and cam sync/ cam gear problems. It only makes sence to fix the weak spots before you install it if its going to see any road use.
I may look at this a little different then most because I've built a few motors and I've set up dozens of gear sets.

Swap the 32s for 35s

373s and 32s wouldn't be bad at all, probably is similar to 4.11 and 35s

373s and 35s would stink. I love 411s and 35s but I drive mine a lot, if I wheeled a lot I would have 4.56/4.88s.

Of so sounds like that's the path I'll likely take

Also like you guys have said my 4.0 makes plenty of power for general wheeling even with 3.73s and 35s but id like it to be faster and have power for climbing like at the dunes for example
Buy an old Chevy for the dunes. Your jeep is ment for better things .

I know going to 4.56s or 4.88s will make a huge difference in power but I don't want to spend anymore money on my current axles as I plan on going to 1 tons and 5.13s in the next year or two. Right now I have a dieing motor so I figure now is the time to do a stroker or v8 swap

Gasket set, rings, valve job(redneck clean and reassemble), 4.2 crank, cam and a new dizzy/wires.

Weekend job, well under a grand, all that cash you wanted to spend on a swap will get you some junk yard axles to start building.

Looking at the 4.6 low buck or 4.7 medium buck stroker what would you guys go with? Also can I run pump gas with the 4.7

You were literally told for 2 pages that this is a horrible idea by people that have done both Why not listen?

Buy a good running used motor and gears, i bought a wrecked XJ for my wifes motor for $400 and got the motor for free after selling other parts take the money you save on a gay stroker and buy gears.

I have 4:88's and 35's with a bone stock 4.0 and it will eat a stock jeep for lunch.

I don't want to spend the cash to regear these axles because in my opinion they aren't worth it. I plan on going to one tons and 5.13s but until then I want to fix my smoke blowing oil burning motor.

My jeep goes fine at the dunes just would go better with high HP all the trucks with a motor make the hills look so easy. I run about 8 psi at the dunes but my tires are load range D so they don't squat like they could.
go lower.

I did the stroker setup and a nv4500.. had fun with it.. I think with the the trans it was right around $4000..

With a stroker you have maybe 400 HP.. and your engine is tapped out..

V8, bone stock 5.3 and you have like 350 HP, some upgrades and you can have even more..

If you want power get a V8.. if you want to make your rig not run like shit. Rebuild the 4.0 and build up the axles...
