Default Frankfort Fishing Report

Tuesday, June 11

First time the boat has been in the water in a few seasons. So major shake down. Boat ran perfect but i'm having issues with the happy troller plate. I can't get it to release properly. Took a while to finally get it down and then got my speed right.

Weather was great, seemed to be calm when we left camp at the Timberline Campground. Wind was SSW at about 6 and the harbor was nice but we wanted to get out and around the bend for browns but even with the low wind there were big rollers and I had an 11 year old on board, so that wasn't happening.

So we trolled the harbor. Put in about 2 hours of trolling. Back to the dock before dark and made it just in time as the wind switched to SE and really kicked up. Made getting to the dock a challenge with just me and the kid.

We long lined for a while first with body baits but nothing on them. Marked large schools of bait and then fish at 15-25 feet.

Anyway, had one shaker, one got off and landed one. All in the same location off the Coast Guard station inside the harbor headed toward the city docks. Every fish came when I was adjusting the cannonball depth from 30 to 15. Every fish hit an orange crush with the exception of the shaker on a monkey puke. All spoons, 12 feet behind the ball.

Water in the bay was about 65 degrees at the surface. Sub temp was all over the place. 50-65 degrees.

Of the boats I talked to that went out of the harbor, they had not caught anything and said it was rough out there.

Kings are starting to come in but really spotty. Had one on between the stub piers tonight but somebody did a crappy job with the net and trying to steer and coach a 11 year old on how to reel. Came on a Kavokien 15 back, 20 down. Had the riggers pop 2 more times but nothing there (maybe it's time to sharpen some hooks) and a small smallmouth was riding a body bait for who knows how long.

Seas are going to be pretty rough Thursday with this storm coming through. Got some rain Wednesday evening. We think we'll skip it and let the girls have a shopping day and us guys will hit Best Buy and the sporting goods stores in TC.

Friday is supposed to be perfect. We'll be out first light headed south along the shore first for browns.

I know, pics or it didn't happen.....

SoggyPaws back on the water again finally!
