I had one ran on my old Samurai just for fun. It had been rolled, totalled, and the previous owner was beheaded in the accident. Carfax came back clean.
yup, my dads jeep was rolled and had several other accidents all claimed through ins, and had a clean report. my trucks are all clean too, and have been in accidents. I had access years ago to free ones, and was suprised how much wasnt posted. of the 5-6 vehicles, I only found like 1 with a reported accident when most had a few

There is some free one (forget what it was) that is simpler than carfax, I like it just to see where the car in question came from.

I saw a show on tv the other night (20/20 or one of those investigative tv shows) and they were reporting on flood damaged vehicles from Katrina... Showed the old abandoned airport filled with written off vehicles, then after they were all gone... It seems that insurance companies are supposed to brand the vehicles that they write off, when they pay out customers for them as they become the "Owners" of the vehicle, but they either forget or don't bother because there is money to be made selling them off to dealers at auction that pass them off to consumers... They showed a F350 dually that a guy got paid 32,000 for because it was in the flood, that a dealership sold to the tv show with a good carfax... Then the original owner took it to the insurance company to see their reaction.... Kinda makes a person leery of buying a used vehicle, even if you use carfax or other reporting companies...
