You probably wont need the rockers if you put the right cam in it. They would be useful if you were to run a factory style/size cam.

LS1tech.com would be a good place to do some asking and reading.

Sounds like it could be a badass setup, just make sure you have a reputable builder look over your shopping list before you start buying parts.
They can save you alot of money and headache from their experience.

Ed Curtis would be the guy to get a valvetrain package from that works.

Not sure what it's going in, or what the plans are for it, but your best bet is to call a converter company and have one built for it.
Sounds like you're building something to have some power, so I wouldn't want to waste it with an off the shelf unit.

Those are the things you design your converter around.

I don't see where you need the 1.8 rockers with the big cam.

I haven't seen ANY LSx engine builds on this site, but there are plenty of similar builds on LS1tech.com, which is the place you should probably start with your research.

You might also check to see how much time/work/cost its going to be, over buying an LSX454 bottom end.

If you are going with the LS3 style heads, I would look into AI for the head porting. I am considering them for porting my LS2 (799) heads, as they have a great reputation for the cathedral ports. I would be considering aftermarket heads for that motor, though.

What block/bore are you using?

Here's a link to what Coan likes to know when building a custom converter.
http://www.coanracing.com/CustomerCa...sp?Action=FORM
It will cost more than an off the shelf, but it's well worth it.

Interesting. Did they help in any way? Dad and I combined have probably ran a dozen of their units over the years, ranging from 3,000-6,400 and never had an issues behind some decent power.
I'm curious how they handled that situation.

They gave me my $$$ back and also gave me a chromoly input drum assy...
Their customer service was great, it was actually an engineer from coan that recommended a ACC converter.

I see 100s of them hold up excellent, just figured id throw my experience in there.

Id try a COAN again, simply because their customer service was excellent, and I see tons of coans hold up every day.

Nice to see they at least tried to help, but too bad they couldn't get it right.
Good to see you've got something that's working for you too!

I agree with this, Had bad luck with them on 2 different transmissions. Had a th400 take out 3 gear on the first pass, Bought a powerglide form them and cooked the band in 3 passes. Both times they did send parts to repair, But R&Ring the trans sucks. I had one of there convertors on my 86 chevy that I kept blowing through the convertor on launch. Sent it back 3 times in a 2 month period. I switched to transmission specatiles and have not had a problem since
