no doubt. Maybe I should power wash and stain their fence too, so it helps with the sale..

After reading this thread, I am going to stop mowing/landscaping my house.
I will also send a letter to the neighborhood telling them to "suck my cock. it's my house and I can do whatever I want to it. If they don't like they can fukc off".

yeah!

Who cares about others? The morons here that live in single wides said it's all good.

It seems you already looked up the township ordinance which would have been my first suggestion, though I do like the idea of contacting the Realtor as well since they may be more motivated to get somebody out there right away whereas the township probably has to wait at least a week to 10 days after notifying the owner.

I had a similar situation across the street from me recently - the old woman died in February and her caretaker moved out right away. The son comes by once a week to slowly clean out the house and take out some garbage but nobody has cut the lawn all year long. It wasn't too bad until a couple of weeks ago when it seemed to grow about 2' overnight. I finally called the city on Wednesday last week and they showed up to look at it about an hour later. The code enforcement officer said it looked like a wheat field and was surprised nobody had called them yet. They posted their notice (didn't have a telephone number for the son) but would have to wait 7 days before they could send their own crew. Luckily the son must have seen it because Saturday afternoon there was finally a crew in there giving it a shitty cutting, but it's definitely better than it was.

Be prepared to have a crew come out and cut it without bagging the grass clippings. Either not trimming, or doing a piss poor job at it. They don't care how it looks. They aren't going to try and match your lawn! But hey maybe I'm wrong...

You're loaded. Why don't you just buy it? It would be a great place to store your vintage jeep that is too rare to drive.

I grew up in the country in a very poor family but there were a few things that I have to say about this whole thought of being country =s dirt ass. My family kept our yard looking nice. The yard was cut, the weeds were pulled, and they had pride in the exterior appearance of our house. Also I was raised to respect my neighbors and to be neighborly in general. It is not neighborly to let your situation impact your neighbors property value because you feel entitled to being able to have a horrible looking property. I know not everyone was raised with these values which could be why America is falling apart.

There are tons of sticks from the elm trees in their front yard that would destroy my mower blades, and there would be so much dead grass that I would be worried it would kill the yard. That yard is also .40/acre, so it's not like I can grab a push mower and take five minutes.... The main reason why I will not cut it, is I will be trapped into doingso until it sells. If the owner finds out I cut the lawn once, why wouldn't he think I wouldn't cut it again? That would remove all reason for him to take care of his own yard.

If you live in a subdivision, you should take care of your lawn. Even though you technically own it, it is your job to take care of it and make it look better. I looked through my township laws, and any grass over 8" is illegal. The grass is 15-20" tall, so I will be contacting the township today. They will cut it, and simply tack that bill unto the taxes. Thanks for the heads up on that.
Not only that but if you cut it and you don't bag it at this point it will end up killing the grass under it and will end up looking like hell anyway.

I didn't say "no ordinances"

Mike said 90% have HOA's or sub rules, ordinances are city wide, not specific "sub rules"

maybe he meant city/twp ordinances, but I took it as individual sub rules, specific to each individual sub.

My home in Waterford has no HOA, and I'm not so sure the twp will do anything about a home that has high grass, there are lots of areas in Waterford that are left to nature, and several are right next to houses so the whole west niles/rodent thing wouldn't really be different then one of these "nature" areas. Also I know an area of Oakland county where the residents are asked to leave their yards as natural as possible, and would never step in and force a lawn cut.

In CC's case I would still call teh twp to ask about ordinances and see what can be done, if that goes no where I think the only thing left is to cut it himself or learn to ignore it.

Oh, and Kerry Anne, houses in CC's sub are all about 1 acre, probably a little more then $25/wk, but not that much, I agree with you on the guy "should" pony up and do it, but I dont' know that he can be forced to do so.
My yard is a half acre and it's 25 a week. So the guy has to pay 50 a week so he doesn't make it his neighbors problem? I don't see the issue.

Negative!

This is why me and my neighbor mow on the same day and mow the same direction as one another.......no crooked lines!

did you or mike see how quickly the charges grow if the Township has to put the collection on the tax bill? certification and administration fees can easily quadruple the original cutting fee.

if I recall correctly, most townships put the weed/wood cutting, nuisance/blight recovery fees on the Winter Tax bill, in order to do so they certify the uncollected fees on the late September Twp Board meeting for collection on the winter bill.

If you have a dog, just extend the leash into your neighbors yard. Therefore, adventure time for the dog with less effort towards clean up on your end. Don't have a dog? Christmas is coming...
