In case anyone wants to know. The fwd version of the 5.3L, the LS4 oil pan will fit on a rwd LS engine. I put the pickup tube and windage tray and oil pan on my lq9. Its pretty low profile and holds over 6qts of oil. Got it free. sure beats the long truck pan.
Guy on ebay has one with windage tray and pickup tube for 80 bucks!! Search for ls4 oil pan. Can't get a pick up til later but my oil pan now is level with my trans pan.
Any benefit over, say, the H3/hot rod pan, or a standard F-body? I need to swap out the goofy pan on my LS2 (trailblazer ss pan with the forward sump and hole through it for the axleshaft.)
THe only benefit I see is that it holds 6qts of oil, No real baffles in the pan but it is almost 3 inches shorter than the truck pan. If I was faced with having to purchase a pan I woulda bought the corvette pan but it was free and seeing I broke my pan the weekend before I got this one. It was perfect.
One thing I will add is that I have to redo my inspection cover now as the rear of the pan is different than the truck pan. Not a huge amount of work there but way better than dumping 365 for the f body or corvette pan.
correct no problems with starter, its a direct bolt in. other than there is one hole in the truck pan that's not drilled in the block of the truck block and the Ls4 has a hole drilled in the pan. I just silicone it. good to go.
just ordered the one on ebay. $99 shipped. looks like I get everything I need. and I can use my truck dipstick. now I see the sensor on the bottom of the pan in the ls4. is it a different style connector than the truck pan sensor on the side? the corvette and fbody pans are 200- 300. fawk that.
Yeah its totally different but I don't even use mine, if you use yours you can get the pigtail and splice it. Don't forget that the LS4 pan takes a PF48 OIl filter with the bypass built in.
put my new pan on. so much more clearance. now I get to rebuild my skid plate and get rid of the 4" drop down I had for the truck pan. only issues I have found is the 2 rear pan bolts are way to long. so I have to source 2 new shorter bolts. and the cap on the side of the oil filter for I think the remote cooler lines on some vehicles. they are different sizes. My oil pressure sensor is in that cap. so I have to drill and tap the new one instead of just bolting the one from my truck pan on. just a heads up to others. they are close. but not the same size.
excellent info, glad it worked out for you, was pretty cool for me to I got lucky and had the Bulls but I did have to rework my inspection play area and I did have to end up short in the dipstick but a half inch and I save 300 bucks:rock::rock:
Sorry for bringing up such an old thread but thinking of using the ls4 pan and wondering why the pan is different on the oil filter area circled. Thanks
