Default Guardian generac standby generator = garbage

My parents put in a guardian generac (14kw?) standby generator about 4 years ago. Last night the power went out and.... Nothing, generator turned on but did not make any power. Electrician came out today and it's dead... With 65 hrs on it and only 10 of those hours are from actual use and not the weekly exorcize cycle. The electrician tells them that he installed 5 of these the same year he did theirs and they are now all dead, warranty was for 3 years. Gardian/generac says shit outta luck, Internet says class action lawsuit.

In the meantime while waiting on some info from you and my parents........
I found complaints, but nothing out of the ordinary for the thousands sold.

Their generac generator has performed flawlessly in the few times the power went out.
Power went out and it kicked on without skipping a beat. My parents love it.......

Ah here we go. 16kw generac aircooled model 5894

All good. Actually didn't find anything bad for the model my parents have!

Just got off the phone with my dad. I was wrong, it stopped working about a month ago during the last storm but my mom told the story to me this morning like it was last night, my bad.

There's is a 17kw.

Aparently Florida has a class action lawsuit open. It is a bearing on the rotor that fails and causes it to not function. Generac has offered to send out a tech and go from there, that was 3 weeks ago.

LOL. your electrician is an idiotic fuckhead. I maintain over 1,000 units in that era, and failures are completely uncommon. Generators usually don't just "die" unless the generator is undersized for the application. If this was a freakish issue where a rotor delaminated or such, I can probably get you taken care of.

BTW, if your electrician actually had a 100% failure rate, I'd bet you any amount of money that his hackjob of a plumber installed such a grossly undersized fuel line that it caused all these engines to run so lean, the heat caused the failures.

If this generator is in SE Michigan I can get you taken care of. send me the serial number and your parents phone number.

They have 84% of the standby market, 43% less failure rate than Kohler, 37% less failure rate as GE. By far the most reliable standby unit available in the under $10,000 price range.

The highest power output to dollar spent.

The cleanest frequency and sine compared to any other standby in the residential market.

Just because it's got a 1/2" npt gas inlet doesn't mean a 1/2" line will feed it.

Just this morning I was at a job where "your generator is a piece of shit, won't run properly" 94' of 1/2" with (7) 90' fittings on a 6.2"W.C. gas system. My math equates to the potential of the line @ 42,000BTU's. Or, 234,000 shy of the requirement for that unit. I simply sold them the unit, and gave them a quote to fix the gas, which their reply was "that's more than I paid for the complete install"

hahaha.

I bet that d-bag also left all sorts of negative reviews online about how shitty the product is... I'd say over half of the new install failures I attend to are hack job gas installs who say "1/2" inlet? I'll run 1/2" to it, no matter the distance"

Most I install end up with 1.25", or maybe 1" if it's close to the meter or a big main.
