That still doesn't make sense. When I'm clearing lots in the UP I use a $90 as a mini brush hog. If I can push it over it, I can mow it. Oil is something that only gets added to, never changed and blades might get replaced if bent. I guess I go easy on my mowers.

I want to say this one was $300+ but it had started acting up even before the fathers girlfriend incident. It had its only changed at the end of every season. I didn't stabil it one winter and i rebuilt the carb.

what ever you get, don't let your dad borrow it, and I think you will be fine.

I have a real Honda mower that was old & free 5 years ago that still runs great. I have a mower from home depot that has a Honda engine on it that took a crap after 3 seasons. Talked to a small engine tech and he says the newer cheapo Honda engines use a plastic camshaft that is known to fail. I picked a Troybuilt out of the trash a couple weeks ago that seems to work pretty decent.

I just bought a cheap craftsman rider for $400. It even has a holder!

Works great too!

Get a reel mower and you won't have to worry about it quitting on you and nobody will want to borrow it.

I have my dads old John Deere. Has to be at least 15 years old. Still starts on the first pull.

when i was like 12, a buddy of mine and i found an old 3.5hp briggs motor'd mower out in the weeds at the neighbors, he gave it to us, we put fresh oil and gas in it and it ran like a top, needed a blade though, it shook like a crack baby.

I just read three pages about push mowers. That's how boring this class is.

As per usual I am looking at blowing the budget out of the water.

http://www.westenbroekmower.com/page...itID=100062951

Guy I talked to today said $500, and if I service it there once a year, they double the 5 year warranty. But I could buy some jeep stuff with that extra $200-300.

Toro's are just rebadged MTD's. I used to work for them. Its good, but they still outsource to MTD.

Agreed about 0 maint and foot long grass comment. It hurt me spending $300 on a mower but if I get 3+ years outta it I'm happy. If I never have to buy another mower I'll be more happy. Way I see it and I told this to the fridge sales man. "This fridge is $550, if it lasts 2.5 years I broke even. Anything after that is a bonus". I was basing it on a dollar a day. Same with mower, used it three times this season. It has cost me $100/use. The more I use it the more the cost disappears.

Not any more according to the guy I talked to today at a Toro dealer. The units I just looked at at home depot were though. They had kohler motors.

All of the Honda mowers had the same gcv160 motor as anything else with a Honda motor had, but for $150 more.

I can't believe I'm considering a $500 push mower.

I have a 20 year-old Ariens with a Tecumseh that starts on the first 2-4 pulls every time.

All metal. Runs great.
