Default Fenton area small engine repair?

So I know not to take this thing up to Big E's in Midland....

I bought this: http://www.bidcorp.com/AuctionDetail...ction_id=36169

with the intention of using it this fall at my Mom's 2+ acres with lots of mature trees. I knew it had been stored, and probably ridden hard and put away wet.

Got it home. drained the gas which looked like old coffee. tossed some new gas in, saturated the air filter with gumout starter fluid and got it to run briefly. basically it only runs if I keep occasionally squirting starter fluid into the intake.

I imagine the carb is all gummed up. I also imagine the ring may be smoked as it's a bit of a smoker.

anyone have a recommendation of a Fenton/Linden/Highland area small engine wizard? I've never done diddly with anything carbed, and my friend that does hates working on tiny engines and told me to just buy a new briggs motor with a front output shaft (he actually suggested a new 10 horse motor )

Sloans in Linden. Stihl power equipment dealer. Family owned. That would be my first call. My second call would be to Taylor Hardware to ask them for a referral.

thank you sir, I figured either you or one of your brothers would have a referral

by the way, if you upbrowse the link there's some gators, and zero turns listed up there now too if you are looking for something to tinker with on your lot.

I don't know if sloans can help you, but if they can't they will know where to send you. They're right at the tracks on linden road near rolston. The old linden lumber building.

As for equipment my brothers may be interested, but I have an awesome lawn mower I bought from hancho, it outlasted its warranty and still hasn't gone poopy

I'll either give sloan's a call tomorrow or stop by with it - can't get it there until the wife gets home from the Detroit field trip with our youngest.

I just assumed your brothers had a nearly revolving account for equipment given their assumed much heavier commercial use

they had 3 60" zero turn toro groundmasters yesterday with the auction ending in the 2,500 to $3,200 range - one only had 562 hours on it (but looked like crap from being stored) all good prices but north of the typical GL4x4 home cheapskate, and probably with enough work required to not quite be reliable enough for a commercial operation.

although the 2011 blower that the city of lansing has up might suit them.

Brian at Taylor does great work. He is busy so you may have to wait a bit but he is as honest as they come.

Sloans has it, thankfully I don't really need it urgently. They have a lot of repairs lined up ahead of it, and it looks like this thing is going to need some work.

Hoping to still be less than the price of a new unit when all is said and done.

think that one's big, check this one out: http://www.bidcorp.com/AuctionDetail...ction_id=36438

ironically they're a bit loose on the details at pontiacsurplus - when I went in to pick up that small rolling unit, the above one is the one they actually wheeled out
