Default 33x9.5x15


I have been looking into new tires and I was talking to somebody today and they told me they are running 33x9.5x15 on a completely stock TJ. They said they get no rub, plus they went from 14-15 MPG to around 17-18 MPG in a 4 cylinder. Mine is a DD with 6 cylinders so I could really use the MPG but I eventually want to go off road and would not like to get stuck every 5 minutes. My instinct was to throw the BS flag on this but I decided to look around. So far I have read that the 9.5 might perform a little better in certain areas, but have found nothing on the MPG claim or if they work well with stock. Also, if the width is what is benefiting the MPG, would a 31" work just as well? Anyone know anything for/against this? thank you.

33's will rub without a lift. a small budget boost, or even body lift would help them clear.
i doubt they help your mpg in any way. they will help off road.

given a choice i would lean toward 33's over 31's every time.
they look nice, and perform much better.

a 2" budget boost and a 1" body lift would be perfect.
do the 2" budget boost now, then the body lift later.
dont disconnect the front sway bar i you will probably be ok.

I will call bs for you.
I ran 2.5 rough country lift with 33/9.50/15 bfg at on stock wheels. It wheeled fine but the tires would still rub once in awhile.
My gass millage went from 16 to 13 with a 6cyl and 5 speed. Im sure you could expect the same loss in milage with a 2.5.

33's will rub. Especially off road.

If there's any improvement in fuel economy over stock it would be because the due to the height, not width. Taller tires have the same effect of higher gears, which could improve fuel economy, at the cost of performance.

my 31s rub a little on the spring mounts with a 4 inch lift... at full flex. rims with better backspacing should solve that though
