Default Zj 318 motor swap from a Dodge. Starter location?

Hey guise,

I have a 97 Zj with a 318 5.2 motor. The motor is blown and needs to be replaced. I found a 318 5.2 out if a 96 dodge.

Someone is telling me, I need to use a 5.2 out of a ZJ only, because the starter is on the wrong side and I would need a lot of fab work to make it work. Any truth to this?

I think this was true on the OLD 2.8 chevy motors. The rwd 2.8 from a blazer had the starter on a different side then the FWD 2.8 from a cavalier. If I remember correctly.... and in this case it really does not matter.

Whoever told you that might have been thinking of the transmissions not the engines, the transmissions won't swap because of the starter issue.

Would a 5.2 out of a 2000 ram swap into a 96 zj with a 5.2?
