Default 4R70W locks up in rev and D but drives in neutral?

Hello everyone,
I have a 2001 Ford Explorer 5.0L AWD. Today when driving the explorer it started to bog and felt like it was binding up when driving down the road. I couldn't get it much over 2,000 rpm I pulled into a parking lot and found that I lost reverse also. It wouldn't move and felt like I was brake torqueing when the brakes weren't on. I limped it home and got it into the garage on the hoist. I've found that both reverse and drive are both locked with no wheel movement and it feels like I'm brake torqueing it (max RPM at about 1700 RPM at WOT). It does however drive in neutral with no bog/hesitation. It doesn't upshift at all and feels like its in a higher gear (1500 RPM at 55 mph with no shifts). I originally thought about a dragging forward clutch but that doesn't explain why its locked up in drive also? Any thoughts? I electrically disconnected the transmission and verified manual lever adjustment with no change.

I thinks its either the linkage is not synced with the solenoids or its an electrical or solenoid problem.

Mine did that when i didnt have the linkage lined up properly under the pan.

Have you had yours apart?

If I recall correctly it defaults to 3rd and reverse if it fails electrically. It happened to one I swapped in when the bulkhead connector thru the case failed. Could it just be stuck in 3rd and lacking power because of it? Is it shifting?
