Default Free car - How do I scrap without paying tax?

A friend of my mom has a 2000 Grand Am that she just wants to get rid of.

Itís dead, pretty well trashed by her kid and parked in a vacant lot. She doesn't want to mess with towing it and wants to hand over the keys and title.

If I want to pick it up and part it/scrap it, what do I need to do with the title so I don't pay any tax on it? (Or at least a minimum amount...)

Thanks....

Depends on the scrap yard you go to.. some require the title be in your name and some just require it to be signed by the owner...

I just took a truck in with the title signed over to me. No issues. Last one I provided no documentation and no problems.

as long as the title is signed, no need to put it in your name to scrap it. some yards don't care about titles but other yards it's a must, like it should be.
