Default Vintage stereo and digital music question

This my seem like a stupid question, but I am thinking about diving into the realm of some vintage receiver and home stereo equipment and some of my music is in digital format. Is there any harm in hooking up, say my cell phone/laptop/iPod type device, via RCA jacks to the tape/phono/aux on older stuff?

Nope. It will work just fine on the input for 'tape deck'.

I'd avoid using the 'turntable' input because some of those were a low level input for magnetic cartridges. Probably won't hurt the stereo, but it will sound crappy and might hurt the speakers if the volume is up too high.

Agree. Ive ran digital music via phone to RCA plug into units as old as 1970s amplifiers. Yes, avoid the turntable input- use tape deck inputs.

X3.

Phono input is different impedance.

X4!

The phono Jack also can have a low end 'boost' that was required because of the tingy-ness that certain records could have. Some DJ's like to use it to get extra bass but they also 'know' what they are doing. .

Thanks! I actually kinda knew about the phono input, but was just wanting some reassurance i knew enough to be dangerous.
