1st gen sequoia would be sweet. I think you could get second row with captains chairs or bench, plus third row. Slightly smallerish....

What about getting a JK or explorer and adding a third row? I think there is enough space back there to do it but you would probably have to make it face backwards. Or take a standard seven seater vehicle and then change out the front seat to a bench seat so that you get three three and two.

That is in the plans for the future. I plan to use it for mild trail running. This whole wacky idea is for something more hardcore I can bounce off trees like I used to in my old Jimmy.

All in all, I might be better off to build the Excursion, body armor it and such, and have fun squeezing it down trails. Peterson's project Super Duty, now Ultimate Ranch Truck, is longer than the Excursion and has been down the Rubicon and many hardcore trails.

Gotta be realistic, how much you would actually use it, for that many people. How many $$$s and how many times per year you'd all go. And do they all like it. Will you pull them all out of school for trips? Or only summer or 1 days? Its a tough thing to build something for hardcore use that big, especially when you factor in 1000+ lbs of people in it.

Do you want all weather, or open? I would start with suburban or blazer. Stretch the blazer or shorten the suburban. Custom fiberglass top for weather, made from a couple blazer tops.

Its going to be probably close to 7000lbs, so you have to look at if that really is what you want.

I'd have a trail-rider (basic trails, snow runs, silver lake, camping, etc) for 8 people, and a hardcore rig for 4 seats.

I basically have that now. The big Excursion, and the two Cherokees. This whole idea is just for fun anyways, but you never know!

And the Mystery Machine van is badass! I was thinking about a 60's van earlier due to the small size.

A Dodge WC-53 would be my first choice. Of course, with a CTD swap.

Man o man I didn't think of those. Now you have me looking! Might be hard to find a fairly priced one though.

I would never want to wheel with more than 4 people in a vehicle. Riding in the backseat gets boring as hell real quick anyway.....

I don't know what the age of the kids are but if one is old enough to start driving, it would be good experience. Otherwise, have the GF drive the other rig.
Jim is smart.

There have been many times where the size of my 4 door JK is a pain in the ass. I couldn't imagine having anything larger on the trails.
