http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...adius=500&mmt=[HONDA[CRX[]][]]&listingId=342940626&listingIndex=10&Log=0

it's even an Si, but the Si' won't get much better than low 30 mpg due to the shorter gearing and slightly better engine vs. the hf.

I had 3 of these, plus an EF Si/Hatch back in the day.

most of these things have double or more the miles, cheese grater like body panels or have been molested by the fast n furious crowd and still are asking double the price or more.

and yes, I realize that one is in Cleveland... they just don't come up around these parts much anymore.

If I had the cash laying around I would pick up the mazda pick up that bigben has listed for sale for $2500.

Well, and if I needed a gas getter. Still have the usefulness of a truck, but pull down 25-30ish (claimed) mpg. win win.

And, its a stick.

And its pretty clean.

and its pretty cheap.

You will when you have to add 1+ qt every tank of gas. I had a 96 twin cam for a while and was getting 36-40 mpgs out of it, but I got sick of driving a pile of shit every day

I've had two cars like this, both required a quart of oil per tank of gas. They both were reliable as hell. They both got great fuel mileage (one was a 4.2 carb'd YJ that got 20-21 mpg highway on 31's) and it never bothered me one bit.

If its a drive to work beater for $2500 or less chances are they will ALL require a quart of oil everytime you fill up....

Honestly of all the shit that was wrong with my Saturn the oil bothered me the least, but it still pissed me off

maybe it didn't bother me much cause i was in college and didn't drive much...I lived in marquette at the time, that jeep rarely saw much pavement driving, it was only a few miles to trails from campus

I realize many old cars use oil, but ols saturn engines seem to have specific issues and burn oil like crazy. The rest of the car seems to live well. I have a few friends who use them for this purpose, as beaters to drive, but two of them have had to put in new motors due to oil consumption issues.

I have owned many cars with 150-200k miles, and the never left a 100ft blue smoke trail from the lights, like pretty much every one I see on my way to work.

I loved my old 91 Saturn. I picked her up for $1700 and put almost 100K on it. I got lucky, the previous owner complained about oil consumption so much that the dealer re-honed all the cylinders and she didn't burn any oil

Ahh, I miss Juanita. She was cheap, dirty, and gave everyone a ride.

I drive a 98 Saturn SL2 with 190k on it as my DD/work beater. Honestly, it is what it is: a cheap car. I haven't had a big problem with oil consumption and some years are worse than others. I worked for a Saturn dealership for a while and it seemed as if certain years are more prone than others for the oil consumption issue. If I remember correctly the 96-98's where good and the 00-02 SL1's didn't have an issue.

In 96 Saturns got new engines that tended to last a lot longer and had more power. As for the oil consumption of pre-96 cars, I bought a 94, did all the fluid checks before driving it home, everything was good. Three days, and about 70 miles later it seized up, no oil left at all. I expected to add some oil when I filled up, which was only a day or 2 away, but damn... 5 quarts in 3 days? On a positive note, I sold the subs, amp, and 6 disc changer that came in it for more than I paid for the whole car and then I scrapped it so I ended up with about a $400 profit.

Side note: That Scirocco may be the best CL post I have seen in a long time.

And this is my new hooptie. I have $300 dollars into it, gets 26mpg city driving, and has 263,000 miles on it. In the two months i've driven it, instead of driving my expedition that gets 14-15mpg, it's paid for itself. If it continues to run well, I may even fix the ac and drive this summer.
