Unhappy Ever want to stop a stupid person and mf them?

Every so often in Chesterfield I see this middle aged woman on a mountain bike pulling an enclosed kid trailer.
I find it disturbing that she is doing this during heavy traffic on the road shoulder. The part that really bugs me is she is right on the edge of the road (on the shoulder) when she could be a bit more over away from traffic!

Now last night she is a good several miles away from where I usually see her towing the kid trailer. Again on the shoulder right next to a lane of traffic, but this time at 9 at night where there are zero street lights! I could barely see her! No reflectors at all!

I just hope there is no kid in that enclosed trailer

No, I did not run her down!

Doesn't that qualify as child endangerment?

Legally I think no, but my gut says yes. That is of course if there is a kid in there. Can't see in at all while driving by.

What we're seeing here is the "bystander effect" in full motion. It's an extremely dangerous situation for a child to be in but instead of someone stopping and actually asking her about it everyone continues to drive on.

I don't think so. It's more like, wtf. "I would never do that scenario "
Justifying myself a bit, but in the area I see this woman there is a lot of local pd traffic so "if" she were in violation of a traffic law I am certain she would have been cited or arrested by now.

No one walks anymore, so no need for sidewalks.

And x2 on it being a beer trailer.

For what? So she can tell me to fawk off?
Only way I could feel better about the possibility of a child being in that trailer so close to traffic is if I were never to see it again. If that is her only means of transportation she will always at some point in time have to play in traffic.

So in short, I won't.

I use the sidewalks around my house pretty regularly. My neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks and it annoys me until I get out on the main roads.

There are sidewalks around your house but not in your neighborhood?

Yes, but not in my neighborhood.. I have to get out to the main roads. I suppose I could have been more clear. There are sidewalks almost everywhere in my city or township.. whatever the hell it is.

I know what you meant, it just reads funny....

I hate it when I'm on the road, and there is a ton of interesting stuff near the hotel to see- and no sidewalks.

Technically it is illegal to ride a bicycle on a sidewalk. Though it is a law that is rarely enforced and typically is a local ordinance not a state law....but in most cases you technically should not ride a bicycle on a sidewalk.

I'm just amazed that immortal's drunk ass didn't run this lady over.

In Michigan, it is legal to ride on all sidewalks, unless the local municipality has specifically prohibited it (such as Royal Oak). In such a case, the ban must be posted with signs, otherwise it is not enforceable.

MICHIGAN VEHICLE CODE (EXCERPT)
Act 300 of 1949

257.660c Operation of bicycle upon sidewalk or pedestrian crosswalk.
Sec. 660c.

(1) An individual operating a bicycle upon a sidewalk or a pedestrian crosswalk shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and shall give an audible signal before overtaking and passing a pedestrian.

(2) An individual shall not operate a bicycle upon a sidewalk or a pedestrian crosswalk if that operation is prohibited by an official traffic control device.

(3) An individual lawfully operating a bicycle upon a sidewalk or a pedestrian crosswalk has all of the rights and responsibilities applicable to a pedestrian using that sidewalk or crosswalk.

A bike has a legal right to be there. With that being said what she chooses to do beyond that is none of your fucking business.

I actually ride the sidewalks when I run errands on bikes so your post just made me happy. I thought in general bikes couldn't ride on the sidewalks but everyone did anyway trying not to get ran over. I am so happy now.

this will make me seem like a callous dickwad - but it's NOT my responsibility to wear a cape and try to rescue all of the windowlicking mouthbreathers and their offspring. If this country was so damned worried about the children we'd actually as a country parent them - not sit them in front of a TV, and then expect the schools to raise them (this of course for the ones that are actually carried to term and not terminated as a "collection of cells")

I have places to be, craps to dump, my own kids to see, dinner to eat or what-have-you.

yes this is inconsistent with my core/essential beliefs. I'm a hypocrite - deal with it.
