Default Found a source for 2gig Garmin x76 chart plotter sticks. I think.

I love my 276c, but my issue has always been with the limited storage on the cards. While the GPS (that is 8 years old) is more accurate, fully waterproof, and basically damage proof, you are limited to 512MB of storage. Well, at least the max that was ever released by Garmin was a 512mb card. Pair that with detailed maps of michigan, plus VVMapping.com 's trail maps, and I end up not being able to include all of the maps I want for snowmobiling, or jeeping trips.

I was doing research on chart plotters, trying to find the equivalent in the new lineup with a SD card, opposed to the large garmin cards, and discovered I would have to pay $1300+ for an equivalent setup. I bailed on that and started researching modifications for the 276, and I found a post from some Russian guy 6 years ago on an ATV forum claiming he had cracked the memory card, and was selling 2gb memory sticks for the garmin x76 lineup.

Even a 512mb card on ebay is $100. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GARMIN-Datac...item27d56807a2

So instead of buying an additional $100 memory card, I think I purchased a 2 gig modified card for $160.

Here is my email communication:

me (sent to some odd .ru email address):
Are you still producing 2gb memory sticks for the x76 series of garmin GPS units? Are these still available shipped to the USA?
Sent from my iPad

Could be legit, the only thing that would set a red flag for me is he hacked a memory card. That kinda crap never pans out.

Sounds legit! Hope it works out for you.

Now can you briefly explain what a Garmin 276c is? Looks like a GPS/Topo map device. Good for off roading/ ORV trails?

Not good, and it is not easy to type in directions or addresses into the unit itself. Everything needs to be setup via map source.

Map source software plus VVmapping = planning a complete trip on the sleds or ORV at the laptop, and you just follow the turn by turn directions.

It will be pre-loaded with child porn. At least you don't have to worry about Chris Hansen anymore. He got fired.

while wearing gloves in 10 degree weather. This is why you rarely see a montana mounted on a sled.

Personally think it would have been better to invest in a Montana. Screen is just as easy to tap on as the 276 buttons with sledding gloves on (read: I usually pull my gloves off to do any detail work, buttons or touch screen).
The 276 is the old chipset and will wander under heavy canopy, the newer units don't have those issues.
I'm seeing a ton of them on sleds (it's #1 customer unit these days).

Of course if you are happy with that unit, then great and more power to you. We moved my father inlaw from a 276 to a Montana in 2011 and he's been very happy with it (bike, quad and sled).

When we go sledding, we use a folding map, compass, and extra gas. I see no need for $1000 in electronics to tell me where I'm at.

Kelly, you should leave your fancy direction thingy at home and come sledding with us sometime, it can be quite an adventure.
