There must be one of these threads every 6 months.

Red Wings and Doc Martens both make a nice 6" steel toe boot

I've heard people like Timbo pros and Wolverines as well

I wear redwing slip ons. Being a pipe welder I am always dropping hot sparks and torch slag on them and walking on hot metal. They seem to hold up descent.

Wasn't Redwing Shoes fighting against something we love, can't remember exactly but I thought it was 4x4s, guns, land use, or something or another.

I bought a pair of Red Wings in December. They are men's 6"inch steel toe. They carried women's 5" but I found the men's more comfortable.
I got a free second set of insoles. So hopefully I can wear these for a long time.
Past steel toes wolverine, timberland, hytest I'm sure there are others too. I liked my wolverines but my style was discontinued. Timberland seller stopped carrying. Hytest company bought, 2 pairs a year and that's about how long they lasted.

Found it, it was to close Canyon Lands outside Moab to ORV/OHV usage. . I remembered this thread since I am going to need new boots soon and Redwings lost me.

Been buying Craftsman boots lately, their wide widths fit me better than Redwings, and cost half as much.

Redwings are great if your feet fit in them. My stupid deformed little toe makes finding shoes a pain. Literally.

Certain models are made in the USA. The boots I buy are made in USA with imported materials.

I love my doc marten's. I have a 6" steel toe that didn't have any visible stitching to the sole except on the back of the heel. I mostly wear them while welding. Very little damage over the past two years (only worn about 12-20 hrs a week, depending on the week)

$45 of the miera's shoe truck from work.

Coastal slip on boots designed for Mechaniacs that are on their feet all day. I switched from red wings to these a few years ago and no more feet/back pain. And they last forever.

I have a pair of Red Wings, a pair of Chippewa, and a pair of Wolverines. All made in the USA (each brand has some that are and some that aren't though so you have to be careful).

Overall, the Chippewas are the most comfortable. They are about 3 years old and still going strong. Granted, I don't wear any of my boots in a shop type environment though - I use them more for working outside. I know that standing/walking on concrete all day can be much more brutal on the soles than on dirt, mud, or grass.

These are the Chippewas that I have: http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/49464...oductId=848549

They seem to have gone up in price by about $50 since I bought them though. One nice thing about buying from LL Bean is that they have great customer service and really do honor their guarantees.

The one thing I look at when buying workbooks is how much stuff they have on them. If they have multiple types of rubber on the soles, different types of leather on the exterior or anything like that I stay away. That is just more places for them to fail. They might be fine for people that wear them occasionally but for people like myself that wear their boots all day at work and then another 40 hours a week in the barn they fail too quickly. Just my .02
