That was always Casey's hope. I prefer to stay American and not raise my kids in that fucked up state.

Depending on how fast we depart we might just fly back and do something for a going away.

Thanks. It went pretty good. Now just waiting on my background check. I'm a little curious what the FBI will dig up.

1) Don't go to East St. Louis (Illinois) in night time
2) Don't gp tp East St. Louis (Illinois) in day time

We loved it there - low cost living, NICE PEOPLE and very mild winters.

I'd move back in a second... enjoy

You'll probably save $3000 a year in gasoline. You'll come back to michigan and be like "WTF - why is gas so expensive in this damn place, and the roads suck!"

Good to hear

Try to buy or rent a place in West County (West St. Louis Country). Don't go to St. Charles County, definitely stay away from North County. We lived in Wildwood and loved it. Wildwood, Chesterfield, Town and Country, Creve Coeur, Ladue, Ellisville, Pond (next to Wildwood where Albert Pujols lived)...All these are great places to live. If you are on a tighter budget you might look at Eureka. We lived in Wildwood but were Eureka schools and they were a bit more rural but still good people.

We were told that the St Charles area was a nice area. Why stay away from there?

While there, please visit:

The Hill (the italian district), and particularly Adriana's on the Hill for lunch. Best sandwiches anywhere on the planet

Italian. sounds great.

Grant's Farm: Where the house and train the Budweiser Cleidsdales: Free beer

The Budweiser factory tour: Free beer

Sounds good

The Arch (obviously)

We did that a few years back. It was fun. We will probably take the kids back there.
The Botanical Garden (great place to go with the wife and/or family in the
spring)

The Butterfly house in Chesterfield

The wife will like that

Tropical Mouse flavored ice stand in Kirkwood (also the home of the headquarters of Bread Co. (Panera in the rest of the country)

The Magic House in Kirkwood (if you have kids)

The St. Louis Zoo (Free and very good)

We will have to look into that. Thanks.

Dogtown (Irish district) for the St. Pattys day parade!

And if you live in Wildwood you are only 6 miles from the 6-flags which means you can get a summer pass for $50 each for your kids and have a great waterpark and rides for them to stay entertained all summer.
6 flags will be great for the kids.

Thanks for the input

Nice roads too? I'd pay more for gas to have nice roads.

Yeah I've heard East St Louis sucks. I will make sure to steer clear of there.

Here's the thing about St. Charles vs West (St. Louis) County. We moved there in 2007 with about 300 people from SE Michigan as part of the Pfizer Ann Arbor site closure. Probably 1/2 ended up in St. Charles and 1/2 in West county. St. Charles county had a huge development boom and prices rapidly climbed vs. West country which has a constant demand. In 2010 Pfizer shut down the STL site. We sold our house 5 weeks after listing for almost the same price we paid in 2007. Colleagues in St. Charles county couldn't sell their houses and those that did took a deep cut because it's not as desirable.

What you get in West County:

Great character
Great places to go
Free admission to many of the St. Louis county attractions
Housing market that is desirable and stable
Public schools with most of the staff having Masters or PhD degrees and exceptional graduation rates and sports (most of the professional athletes live in West county)

What you get in St. Charles:

Generic America.
Do you like fast food, chain stores, places you can find at any populated exit across the US? Then St. Charles is your place.
It was farm land until a decade ago and then the developers bought the land and decided they could make it look as generic as any other place in the country.
There was a huge housing bubble as prices took off.
And you'll want to invest in private schools, because the public schools lack quite a bit.

North stl is just as bad as east stl. The zoo is cool, and if you park on the street it is free. Get there early and plan on leaving early afternoon. That's when all the people who couldn't afford to pay to get there. I also got to watch a drug deal with my wife and kids down at the landing.

There is also a cool biker bar just north of the Edwards Jones dome. Just into the area where you feel unsafe. Great burgers. The upstairs is caving in and there is indoor parking for the bikes.

Would love to give you a quote for the move. I did move Green but I don't remember the mushy details. My company is in Ann Arbor and has been around for 20 years in August. And I won't kiss somone just for buying axles from them.
