Installed for led spot lights on the bumper today. Only casualty was my pinky finger. But that was because I was opening up the shackle mounts.... drill grabbed and pinched some skin off.

I'm glad someone found use for the stuff I collected over the years. So how about a detailed write up of how you did it.....

Small pic is small

Copycat. You don't have to dodge the prop rod anymore.

Small pic is small
click on the pic, not small for me

there are a bunch of writeups on le google.

I took the brackets off my 97-01 and threaded them onto the older style xj struts. They are a shade longer, and I ended up mounting them "upside down" to work with the newer style mounting bracket.

I then took self tapping screws and lined them up with the flat inside the fender, there was a small dimple in the sheet metal, so I used that to place my rear bolt on the bracket.

for the hood side the longer old style struts work better because they were a little longer. the new style strut put it directly where the notch in the hood brace is (no good). to get the bracket below you're looking at an almost vertical hood. To put it above the notch the angle of the hood is less than desirable. I purchased a pair of 10mm ball brackets from amazon (here) and drilled and pop riveted it to the hood.

Some people have clearance issues with the washer fluid fill port, I didn't seem to. It did hit the wiring harness on the drivers side, but I moved it around and no problem.

Good enough for you scott?

The hood really bangs open when you pop the latch now I'm not sure if my wife is capable of reaching the hood to close it now

main reason for it. I got sick of how cumbersome the hood is to prop with the stock rod. It is currently laying on the garage floor

So nice job!
get it done
I did this in about 20 minutes of work time. I spent more time looking for rivets and eventually driving to the parts store (needed to pick up a fuel pressure regulator anyways)

I can see one of your struts failing prematurely. I suppose i could take that XJ off your hands so you aren't stuck with it...
