'00 sierra hard shifting out of park and through gears

The shifter is pretty tough shifting in and out of park, reverse, neutral, etc. It has been annoying but the shift lever snapped and at $50 a pop I don't want it to be a regular thing. Has anyone had this issue before?

We have had a couple at work where the Shift shaft rusts and swells inside the Pnrdl switch and makes it hard to shift. They were fords but may be the same on yours

The cable is probably junk. Its a two piece design and is pretty simple to change

x2 on the cable...runs under your carpet, under driver seat. Ive changed a few for this reason. most of the time you will find the sheath to be broken as well.
