Default crossmember bumper

After messing up my bumper and swing away tire carrier at the mounds I'm thinking of ditching it and getting a cross member as a bumper looking at this one http://www.genright.com/ProductInfo....ductid=RTC3530

I want to put the spare in the tub for better weight transfer on climbs and also so I have a better departure angle. Like I said the slab ruined it this time. I do like the added protection on the back when sliding towards a tree with a tire on the back.

What's everyone opinion on this? Is it better to have protection or better climbing and departure abilities? If anyone has just a cross member does it protect your tailgate and top at all when coming towards a tree? How often do you hit in the rear when wheeling?

Thanks

Remove your tailgate for wheeling. Problem solved.

I cut out existing crossmember and welded this in, has holes for body mounts as well.

That's how I feel but my ruined bumper doesn't look the greatest.

Are you going to do that and just throw your spare on the trailer like we talked about ??

Or are you going to get the swing away tire carrier like we also talked about ??

Does any one know how those swing away Genright tire carriers hold up wheeling ??
How hard of a hit can they take before they crush your quarters ??

Probably just throw the spare on the trailer or in the back of the tub on long trips
