Well, based on my experience and imperical statistical data I have not collected ever in my life, general rule of thumb, police reports, and plain old murphy's law. I would venture a guess somewhere along the statistical probability of .0001% chance she would have been broken into had her thug rival drug dealer not known she had massive amounts of weed he could steal from her.

But, that's just my completely scientifically unscientific guess.

Investigators say they arrived to find the suspect handcuffed just inside the front door and that he had also apparently been beaten with a baseball bat.

The 20-year-old suspect is in critical condition with bullet wounds to his shoulder, torso, and hand.

The homeowners and four kids inside the house were not hurt.

Deputies got a search warrant for the house and say they found a marijuana growing operation and that they found "a lot" of pot in the house.

So the Tri-County Metro Narcotics team is investigating, as well.
I wonder if it matters in the order in which it happened?

If we assume he actually did break in the house and was inside the house when this all happened.

A - suspect breaks in, is hit with a baseball bat and subdued and then handcuffed then shot.

B - suspect breaks in, one person hits suspect with bat and suspect is still fighting back so woman shoots him. They hand cuff him after the baseball bat and shooting.

This was in the comments, obviously its as reliable as GL legal advice but it may get interesting.

"A homeowner next door has been investigating this guy for over a year, he was forced to move out of his home after having his vehicles vandalized by the neighbor involved in the shooting. My cousin lives in the house next to them. This is what happened according to people in the know: A person showed up late last night around 12 am, this is the same time they always start getting visitors every night. This person arrived in a Jeep, was handcuffed to a door after arguing and shot twice. one time in the stomach and one time in the hand. The victim was then beaten severely with a baseball bat. sometime later the police were called and told there had been a break in. The man responsible for all of this is a known leader of a gang of racists. They had a Nazi flag on their house for a long time but recently changed it to a German one after area complaints. "

It happened around midnight when an Ingham County woman opened fire on an intruder at her home on the 4200 block of West Holt Road, a few blocks from Cedar Street in Holt.

The suspect was male and was shot multiple times. He had injuries to his stomach as well as his hands.

Inside the home were a woman, man, and several children. At this time officials tell us that no one else in the home was hurt.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is in surgery and is currently listed in critical condition.

Investigators are still piecing together how the man broke into the home and whether he had a weapon.

I don't think this will turn out very good. Beat with a bat, then shot and still alive.

Not if each 12 plants per patient are not in separate, locked enclosures accessible only to the caregiver.

Plants don't need to all be separate, a single caregiver can have up to 72 plants in a single area.

Problem here sounds like was they had more plants and more finished product then the law allows. They could be looking at some serious charges especially since now they've found 5 guns in the house(2 year charge per gun I think) plus even if it was a break in Castle doctrine will not apply because of being a drug house.

Hmmm, thought there was a court ruling that each patients plants had to be separate, maybe I'm wrong. I'm not at work so I can't look it up right away.

But yeah, I agree, bet they weren't enclosed at all and that they had way too much.

I thought the new law said multiple caregivers can't grow in same "room".
