Saw a pic of the new Cherokee and hated it. It's a fiat with a modified jeep grill. Looks hideous.

they did a great job of going after the Ford Escape market and Huyndai cuv market and alienating most traditional jeepers by the looks of it

After seeing the feedback on several sites, I cant help but wonder when manufacturers will start submitting their ideas and concepts to the internet for approval before building a car. It should be easy enough to get the interwebs to agree on what a car should look like.

I like it. Simply because they went with a bolder styling in a sea of blandness.

yep. they are trying to make it look pretty. unfortunately, it seems 95% of new jeeps are going to end up in some surburban driveway or 3 stall garage and never ever see a trail. that's what this thing looks like, a garage queen.

built for the trail, dressed for the mall.

and if the EPA gets it's way, in the long run these vehicles will be forever prohibited from playing in the mud or crossing a stream.

I still think it looks like the Japanese submariner from Gilligan's Island from the front.

theoretically their designs are sometimes vetted by the marketing folks in small sample case studies. now, if you expanded that to the internet, some 2-3 years before your design is supposed to hit the street, what would all of the other manufacturers do if they saw an internet discussion forum explode with a statistically sound sample of verifiable positive comments about some proposed design?

they'd implement emergency change controls to realign their designs to incorporate some/most of those same styling cues. then everything would look the same.

oh wait, everything already looks the same.

I thought of another piece of ugliness it looks like - the olde isuzu vehicross...

While the Vehicross was ugly, it was 'tough ugly', kind of like a bulldog.

The new Cherokee looks like a crossdresser in comparison.

I like it. (I also work on it, so I'm biased). Libertys were not wheelers anyway, and they needed a vehicle like this to compete in the small SUV market that is getting very competative.

Maybe you forgot about the last time a car was designed by comity? It was called the Azteck it had all the features everyone asked for so it should have been a hit! Instead they ended up PAYING GM employees to drive these things and look like they are active and outdoorsy and even that didn't help!

I have nothing to back this up, but IMHO the Wrangler is for the off-road crowd, and everything else is aimed at people who do not wheel but want a part of the 'legendary' Jeep name.
