Default Ranger 2.0, street build

So I picked up a 96 Ranger, 2wd for a fair price...

Then I picked up a 04 crown vic cop car and robbed the 4.6 motor and transmission from it.

Plan is to fix the almost rust free body up, lower it, swap in the motor and fab whatever I need to make it all work, possibly a whole new suspension.

I'm just wanting a fun truck I can dd, maybe race on the weekends.

Name is needed.

Gonna bring it into the shop this weekend is the plan, fix up a couple things, and maybe get it on the road for now while I collect parts.

Name? How about "traitor"? Wish you were still wheeling.

Looks like a fun toy.

I was 6 and my grandma bought a brand new 87 2wd ranger, no PS or PB - strait bare bones. My intent was always to build a little strait line hot rod ranger. I did end up with it many years later with very low miles, but it sat so long up there in Waldron Mi, that it was too far gone.

So if you don't mind I'd like to live vicariously through you? You do pretty amazing work so I expect this to be epic.

Haha, absolutely. I'm sure I'll even let you guys have some say so on the build plans once I get into it.

Thank you for the compliments, I try my best.

This build is really just a precursor to the next, 'big' build I have in mind. Granted, I only have the vehicle bought that I will base the build off of and a bunch of ideas, nothing is set in stone, but a full chassis with a long travel suspension is in the plans.

This Ranger may get sold after getting completed and help fund the next large build.

I vote either "FAG" (Fucking Abandoned you Guys), or TISNAC (Thankfully, It's Still Not A Chevy)

Although not a wheelerer I still respect it's uniqueness and look forward to seeing it progress.

I like the sounds of this, too

Didn't Stacey David do a 4.6 swap in a ranger?

I can tell that by the smaller valve covers. Still more than the LS uses!

I recognize that ranger. It be a whole lot cooler if it was a "street version" with trailing arms and 20" of travel.....LOL

Cop car crown vics have a sweet power steering fluid heat exchanger. from the pics it looks like you have it...

Thanks! I know it's gonna be a different build for this site, but I hope I can do it justice.

No problem, glad to see the mustache champion tires still in use.

It's been done before, but I haven't found one yet done with this vintage. The steering and suspension isn't as forgiving.

It's still there, waiting for its time to shine. It'll be the 'big' project

How is the beam suspension gonna handle around corners? I've never driven one with the I-beam suspension.
