Default "Stranger" sas doubler ranger

I started with a 1996 ranger 2wd 4cyl. My sister bought it in 97 and we've had it ever since.
She put a 6" lift on it back in 99 or so and it stayed like that for about 12 years. Looking like this.

I got sick of it looking 4x4 and eating up front end parts i started the sas about 3 months ago.
Bought a 4cyl 4x4 trans and 1350 case from an 88 ranger, a 1354 t case from dumperdave and started the doubler.
Pulled the truck into the garage and pulled the bed and rear axle out.

replaced with an 8.8 out of a 93 ranger. Put 4.10s in it and welded the diff.
My buddy gave me a dana 30 for the front out of a 2000 TJ.
Y linked the front.
Put XJ 6.5" Superflex coils in the front.
Will update once i get home.
Took it to Dog Party and beat it and it stayed together.

Yeah my phone messed up and wont let me upload. Its done though. The doubler is awesome. Has good flex as seen in my avatar. I kept it low and it don't rub the 35's. I do need to raise back a few inches. It has the prerunner look to it.

Definitely looks like good flex. Eventually I'll get to this on my Explorer. So the doubler came together nicely huh? Have to add that to the build plans.

I had a buddy that worked at livernois make the intermediate shaft for me. Cut the tailshaft off of a garbage automatic trans. He milled it, pressed it together, heated it up, tig welded it and put it in a sand box to cool slowly. Best thing is it was free! Made the plate and followed the instructions from the ranger station and it went together pretty easy.
Installed 4.10 gears in the rear axle, welded the spiders. It may see some around town driving but not much so i went cheap.
Built the y link suspension from 1.75x.25 and 1.5x.25 with 7/8 and 3/4 heims.
Made new lower coil buckets the move the axle forward a few inches and incorporate the lower link mounts.
Made a track bar mount on the axle and frame.
Made the drag link, track bar and tie rod. All out of 1.5x.25 dom with 3/4 heims.
Put F250 shock mounts on frame to fit longer shocks.
It turned out good. Considering i built this truck is less than 3 months total time.
In the last pic you can see the prerunner stance. But not much rub so its not bothering me yet. I can get more pics of track bar brackets and what not if anyone needs them. I also rounded the brackets and links after mock up.

Well the rear rubbed pretty good. So I swapped in some 64's. sits level now.

Trans crossmember started tearing so I made a skid/crossmember. My belly height is 20" with the 36's. Turned out pretty good. still need to paint it and clean it a little bit. the first pic is in process has more braces in it now.

I also made a rear bumper. My harbor freight kinker did a good job.

what coil buckets did you use? trying to gather parts to do a sas on my 94 and dont want it to be to high i am aiming to run 35-36's and i was thinking about 6 inch xj coils but dont know on buckets

I used factory coil buckets. Beat the little finger things flat. Took 5" .25 circles and welded them up there with a piece of 1.25 sch40 pipe vertical that goes into spring to locate it. I used 6.5" xj coils. And 12" travel 5150 shocks with 14" travel rear 5150's.

Welp, went wheeling last night. Got all bound up in some tree stumps and ripped the lower link mount off and part of the frame. So fixing that and starting the exo cage, getting rid of bed, new front bumper and more. So more pics to come.

Well the core support was rotted bad, so i ordered one and put it on. The spot welds suck. But it went together nice. In the process of putting polyurethane body mounts on it. Click image for larger version

Cut the rear frame at the shackles, put in a 2x4x.25 crossmember with receiver tube in it. Got 2 months to get it done. So I'll have updates often.

Did a lot. Cut the frame off, started the exo cage. Built a bumper/winch mount. Took it up to dog party. Wheeled good till I lost a bead and broke a front axle shaft.

So I bought some beadlock kits. Got one mounted so far. Bought spicer joints for my front axle. Replaced the crappy precision joints. Bought a smittybilt xrc9500 winch and mounted it up, had to use it and it worked great. Going up to extreme truck challenge. Not entering but I'll do some wheeling when I can.
