Default mossberg 500 project

Two years ago I wanted to be able too protect my family if need be and I got a mossberg 500. Now it's time to make it fit the close quarters bill easier.
First step. Make it shorter.

Oh yeah, I couldn't bring myself to cut up my first shotgun so the project is the new one.

I wanted a raptor grip for it but I'm happy with this for free. I will plasti dip the wood when I'm not feeling lazy.

Next step is cut the barrel but I'm having a problem bringing myself to do it. I only have one smooth bore and two rifled. The smooth bore would be the smart choice to cut down but I do like shooting clays now and then. And shot through a rifled barrel makes a "O" pattern so I don't think cutting one of those down would be smart.

A Tacstar Sidesaddle, heatshield, and flashlight will complete this gun.

The laws just changed on the length of shotguns / pistols . I believe 20" is as short as you can go with the grip.

It will be legal. I might buy a breech barrel rather than cut one down.

I'm not going for this.

No, thank you. There was a chance I didn't know the legal length.

And thanks. I was scared it wasn't going to look good but I love it. Can't wait for paint or stain.

you cannot have a barrel shorter than 18" on a shotgun and the overall lenght must be 26" or greater...I just read threw that MGO thread and there is so much fucked up info on it as well as in this thread...

Default shotgun

If you are ever not really into the wood grip Hogue makes one that they call a tamer grip it is very nice finger grooves , looks nice and actually absorbs the recoil you can shoot 3 inch mags one handed if you wanted and wont hurt you . The correct info as Hancho stated is 16 inches for a rifle and 18 inches for a shotgun . Our state does not allow SBR or SBS for now so dont cut it less heres a link to the ATF,s description they are the ones that make this stuff up so they are the ones that will be coming after you . Love the mossberg shotguns the safety right on top at your thumb , The mariner version is a very good shotgun , I have a few ,

http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/nati...-shotguns.html

On the barrel length if you look through ATF websight you will find how they measure barrel length as well . Best way seems to be to take a cleaning rod and with the action closed slide cleaning rod down barrel until it comes in contact with the bolt face mark the rod at the end of the barrel and measure this will be the actual barrel length where as if you had measure the barrel from outside removed from the gun after you cut it to 18 inches you would be a good couple inches under what is actually legal .

Give me a length then ? I'm awake now and trying to find the new law in print.
I don't own a 500 to measure the receiver but with the 18" barrel+receiver+grip the OAL will be close.

You were supposed to do this a month ago before the laws changed so you could get it registered as a pistol.
