Default 5.4 question

I just picked up a 98 f-150 with the 5.4 triton

The guy i got it from said it needed a differential pressure sensor?

Well I am trying to locate it and not sure where it is?

Also there is a "sensor" on the driver's side of the throttle body (3 wire) and the wires have been cut. What is this "sensor" as I want to replace it. Is this the differential Pressure sensor?

I have looked on line and cant find a good picture or diagram

ok I took it in to get scanned and it said that the dfps was not getting a ground, so I repaired the wiring and while I was at it gave it a sea foam treatment.

Well it seems to be running better, and it has lots of power but the CEL is still on and at one point it was flashing until I slowed down to turn around and then it want back to a solid light

Blinking light = pull the F over, Next time it does that if it doesn't go solid quickly I wouldn't drive far.

A blinking cel means a missfire capable of causing cat convertor damage.. should have a po30? Code. Dpfe will cause a light and some running issues but not a flashing cel light. If it has 8 coils I would suspect a coil issue. If it has wires.. possibly wire/plug or coil pack. Po301 means cyl 1, po302 means cyl. 2 etc. Good luck

I sell the shit outta coils for the 5.4s. Just FYI the only difference between the fd503 and fd503t is about 50% of the cost, and warranty. I asked my standard Rep what the Difference is, he said warranty. The Accell 140032 go on sale for 23.95 every few months, if you plan to keep them stop by your local auto value when they are on sale, and grab a few.

Thanks,You are correct in your diagnoses had it scanned again and its the number 5 cylinder misfiring, so I am going to replace the coil pack and plug.

It also said a knock sensor, but could that be related to the misfire?

do u have a scanner with mode 6?? if so, check all cylinders for misfires.. if any show misfires, replace that coil/plug as well. yes it can cause a knock sensor code, fix missfires and clear codes

I had auto zone scan it and he gave me the print outs, there were 2 other codes, One said knock sensor and the other said lean mix bank 1, I am thinking that this bad coil/plug might be causing all the issues, since I have read that these coil packs are known to go bad.

So Once I replace the coil and plug, should I dis-connect the battery to reset the computer or just drive it 20-30 min to rest it?

You can disconnect battery for 10 min.. that should reset everything. Dont do this until after you drive it and make sure it runs excellent. If it runs better but still misses.. don't clear codes or disconnect the battery. It makes it harder to diagnose the miss.

Check the vacuum hose that goes from the valve cover to the back of the throttle body. The rubber gets soft and sucks in causing a vacuum leak which causes lean codes.

I am going to look at those and the pvc valve and clean the throttle body, i did replace the coil pack and it runs 100% better, no chugging at 50mph or while cruising at speed and go to accelerate

Thanks for the help
