Default Baby Monitors

So, what do you recent parents of curtain climbers have? Some options I would like to have..

1. Night (infrared) vision.
2. Android compatible
3. Sound alert (For when baby wakes up from nap)
4. ??

Thanks.

why would u want all that crap. sounds like your a 1st timer. i picked the one with the longest range under $100. it works out in my barn so i can hear if the little diaper wetter wakes up at night while im wrenching.

for our second baby we bought a fancy one and it sucked balls. sold it at a mom to mom sale for $60 and were using the one we first got that has my greasey hand prints all over it.

My kids are a little old for the smart phone apps but we used 2 things. One was from Bebe sounds. it's a little square plate that goes under the mattress and senses motion. it ticks every few seconds and an alarm sounds if there is no movement for about 20 seconds. it was nice piece of mind for mom to hear the ticking without having to look in. we also had video. I think almost all have a night vision capability along with a hand held monitor (may link to a smartphone nowadays). Might have been a little overkill but it was fun to yell "get back in bed" from the other room and be able to see the look on thier face:)

Yes, we're 1st timers. I would like an android compatible one, since I work 2nds, I'll be able to check in on the lil'squirt from work. Also, since I already carry my phone around with me, it will be one less thing to loose. Sound alert... so we know when it wakes up.

This ^. Greasy hand prints and all.

We had our 4.5 year old basic Fisher Price monitor finally crap out on us. Both of the battery packs finally died in the hand helds. I plan on spending the $12 to replace them and keep using it for our third that will be here at the end of the summer. My wife would probably never sleep if we had one of the motion detecting systems.

I can't remember the brand but we use just a basic monitor that has constant sound and also flashes a small light along with the noise. Sounds annoying but after a month I was sleeping through it all Wife had a hard time sleeping for awhile but after probably 6mo she was sleeping through it to. Now when only wake up when she's actually awake and not just making noises

We used the baby monitor for a week with the 1st kid. we would stay up and listen to the breathing. after that we said screw it, our home is small so we could hear the kids crying in the night from room to room.

This, especially in your small house. You don't want to be the parent that hovers over the kid all the time.

One of the other draws to the online baby monitors, with my folks basically living in Ghana Africa, and my wife's dad living in Florida, we want them to be able to see their grandson easier.

We have the Motorola camera with night vision. It also moves left right up down. Color sound ect. Not smart phone compatable tho. My boy is 9 months now, and a about 2months ago he figured out we could see him when we wernt in the room. now he mugs for the camera. We really like our monitor, it was $249 tho.

we have a standard one, and one with basic camera/IR.

They have their uses at different times. With your first kid, you are always nervous and curious, so the video is nice for that. Mostly, with a baby, you just want to here whats up.

People say, yeah, you can hear the kid. OK, well, live in a big 2 story house, and you can't. work in the garage, or the yard, or the garden, etc, and you can't hear, so they are certainly valuable.

The video is nice for certain times. Like our 2.5 yr old daughter just transitioned to a toddler bed, instead of a crib. So, the video is nice, when she goes down for a nap, to see whats going on in there, or, if she fell asleep at night on the floor or something.

The old audio only monitor, we still use sometimes for our 4.5 yr old. If he's sick, or something, it helps to hear if he wakes up in the middle of the night.

No experience or need for anything online in our house. Wife stays home all day with the kids, there's no day care, or babysitting, or grandparents that need to check in.

Basic audio is fine for most stuff. Video is interesting, and we are always using the camera part to see what the kid is doing.

We have a Summer, I think. Has a small handheld with color and works in the dark also. It is your basic monitor of today. We never considered smartphone compatible, but I would bet that's pretty pricey and are you sure you want other people looking in your baby?

We just used a cheap basic monitor. Somehow it managed to last through all 3 kids. The camera/motion ones just seemed too much to me, along with the fact that almost all the reviews I read stated that the motion sensor faulted a lot due to kids moving too far away from the sensor under the mattress etc. I work nights and would sleep during the day whenever the baby would nap and had no trouble waking when hearing him cry in the monitor. I don't know the size of your house but we lived in a 1200sqft bungalow and had no trouble hearing our screamers even without the monitor. ymmv
