First Time Coolant Flush Questions
02 Jeep TJ 4.0L
Looking at flushing my coolant system this upcoming Spring and looking for the best advice on how to do this. I have read numerous guides online and everyone seems to have their own way of doing it, but I'd like to hear your guys personal opinions on how to do it the most effectively and easily.
Even though they are in fine condition, I plan on replacing my Thermostat, Upper & Lower Radiator Hoses, and Radiator Cap while I'm there.
From the numerous guides that I have read, to my knowledge it is safe to use Prestone Superflush Fluid so I plan on using this. Along with this I will use a garden hose to flush out the system, assuming it is safe to use normal tap water (My city has fairly clean water).
I also plan on using Zerex G-05 Coolant & Distilled water mix for the fill-up.
If any of these items seem wrong to use let me know, here are a few questions I have on the flush procedure.
-Do I have to pull the block drain plugs to completely clean the system? Or is there another way to flush that area without pulling the plugs?
-Is tap water from a garden hose safe to use to flush the system? (My coolant system is fairly clean)
-Should I purchase the Prestone Flush N' Fill Kit and cut the heater core hoses to flush this system or is there another way to do this?
-If I do cut the heater core hoses and attach the T fitting supplied with the Flush N' Fill Kit, does the T fitting come with a cap to seal it when I'm done with the flush or do I have to replace those hoses as well?
Any information is greatly appreciated as always, thanks!
