Default Trail clean-up ??

A couple year's ago, someone put on a trail clean-up around the West Branch area. Is their a group or someone doing this event again? That's the area I like to wheel in, and would like to give back.

SOFO does the trail Maintenance which is just clearing brush (Not trash pickup) Brewman arranged a trail clean up up there awhile back, and I think there was a thread here in the pub about it a little over a week ago. I tried to find it but was not having luck with the search.

If your up for one though and that doesn't happen, there is the Two-Trackers clean up closer to the West Side in April, it is always a very good time I have gone a few times.

He didn't say he wouldn't come this far and was just clarifying the date jeepfreak81 posted.

I believe Brewman set it up last time. The good news is there isn't near the trash dumping around West Branch as there is on the west side of the state. However, occasionally I do come across some small trash piles.

Ultimately, there is no reason why you couldn't pick up some trash all on your own. If you know of some decent sized trash piles, contact the DNR and I'd bet they would be happy to provide a dumpster.

Yes, I did this in the St. Helen area, with the help of the Swampstompers, for a few years. For various reason it's didn't happen last year, and I don't know of anything being planned for this year. Forest clean ups are surprisingly easy to set up. The person that runs the program for the state, Ada Takacs, is great to work with. With a few phone calls you can put it all together, except for one thing... people to do the work. You'll get plenty of people that will say they will go, but I was lucky if 1/4 of them actually showed up. If you can get someone with a small endloader and a few people with trucks or trailers it's not to much work.

Fortunately the West branch area does not have much active dumping going on, unlike the area on the west side of the state. I checked the data base (http://www.cleanforests.org/search2.shtml) (search for Richfield, that's the township for St. Helen) and there are a few new ones, as expected, old TV's.

I'd be happy to help anyone that wants to put something together.

The problem over here is that the locals appear to have adapted to our clean up. there's been many times during our clubs pre-run that they see little or no trash, then miraculously during the run we find trash all over. It's like Two Trackers are coming, no need to put the garbage out this week, we'll just go toss it in the woods.

I never did either until I did it.

It really is quite easy, except getting people to come out and help.

This, and get the local forrestry service involved so you have all the right permits, then start calling for donations like dumpsters for use for the day, etc.

We can poke the DNR trail technicians too if we can get something scheduled - they have helped out in the past with trash drums, etc for the St Helen MSA cleanup
