Default Rick Snyder's Responce to my 2A Rights

Dear,

Thank you for recently contacting the Executive Office of Governor Rick Snyder. As a member of Governor Snyder's staff, please accept this response on his behalf.

While Governor Snyder will carefully consider any legislation that reaches his desk, he has not called for any specific gun legislation as we remain focused on improving the state’s economy. The governor understands this is a dialogue that is happening in earnest at the federal level, but has been clear that improving mental health treatment needs to be part of the discussion when it comes to solving larger problems related to gun violence.

In order to do this, we must take a holistic approach and examine the multiple causes and root of the problem. Therefore, Gov. Snyder has ordered a multi-departmental assessment of the state's services and needs regarding at-risk children, mental health, and school security. This will hopefully lead to more answers and better safeguards while ensuring we’re protecting the rights of law-abiding firearm owners. Here is a summary of what Governor Snyder has called for:

· Directing the Michigan Department of Community Health to partner with the departments of Human Services and Education, as well as the State Court Administrative Office and law enforcement, to evaluate systems of care for at-risk children. The evaluation will identify gaps between the various systems and create a comprehensive plan to bolster early intervention efforts to address behavioral, emotional and mental health issues.

· Tasking the Department of Community Health to work with law enforcement and the courts to facilitate regional training to better identify tools that can be used for identifying high-risk youth. DCH also will collaborate with partners to increase mental health awareness efforts, which will include promoting resources available to people in need of assistance.

· Directing the departments of Community Health and Human Services to explore ways to incorporate community mental health workers into the Pathways to Potential model that is under way in schools.

· Directing the Michigan Department of Education to review best practices and policies of safe school plans across Michigan, and help develop a means of greater access to strategies for students to find ways of resolving conflicts peacefully.

· Asking local school districts to offer practical ways to help prevent the introduction of weapons on school property, in order maintain the sanctity of a safe educational environment for students and educators.

Should gun legislation come before Governor Snyder for consideration, please be assured that your comments will be kept close at hand. If you have further questions or comments regarding this or any other state-related matter, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. I’ve included my contact information below.

Sincerely,

Laura Stoken

Dear Governor Snyder,

I am a law-abiding citizen and responsible gun owner.

I am saddened by the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut, but I believe that efforts to impose new restrictions on me and other lawful and responsible owners like me are misguided. Did you know that violent crime with firearms has declined since the Federal "assault weapons ban" expired in 2004?

Your focus should be on strengthening mental health care and improving the quality of data supporting NICS checks (National Instant Criminal Background Check System). Do NOT pass more gun laws; instead, work to enforce the more than 20,000 gun laws already on the books.

I am your constituent and I vote. Please represent me.

Sincerely,

This is the response my dad received from Synder's office

Pretty much the same email I got from them too.

Here's what I got from John Dingell:

---
Thank you for contacting me regarding gun violence. I appreciate hearing from you.

Like every American, I have been deeply saddened by the senseless slaughter of 20 innocent, beautiful children in Newtown, CT. The question we confront, not just as Members of Congress, but also as fathers, mothers, grandfathers, and grandmothers is how to stop future acts of violence? I agree with President Obama, this has become too tragically routine and it must end.

There is no panacea nor any easy solution, but we do know there are real steps we can take to keep our kids and communities safer. For more than 15 years I have been fighting to make the National Instant Criminal Background Check System effective and prevent criminals and violent people, and other persons who constitute danger, from getting access to firearms. A recent GAO investigation, that I asked for, found numerous deficiencies with the program – from how we fund it, to how effectively the states are in reporting dangerous people to the instant check. We know the problems. We have real solutions – many of them the President can do administratively and with the support of Congress. I will continue working to ensure that we have a NICS program that is fully funded, easily accessible to all who need access to it, and which compels states to provide all of the names and information needed to make the system work effectively to prevent firearms from being owned by persons who are a danger to their fellow citizens. In short, we must assure that the NICS program will prevent future tragedies.

While the investigation about Newtown is still ongoing, a strong NICS program may have made a difference in Aurora, Virginia Tech, and Tucson. We should commit to the American people that we will redouble our efforts to ensure that those who are not permitted to own a weapon are not given the means to acquire one.

Again, thank you for being in touch. For news on current federal legislative issues, please visit my website at www.house.gov/dingell; you can also sign up there to receive my e-newsletter. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me again if I may be of assistance with this or any other matter of concern.

With every good wish,

Sincerely,

John Dingell
Member of Congress

The one thing that I noticed in Snyder's response is, while I am sure it is a form letter sent out to many, that a direct contact number and email are included at the bottom. I don't think I have seen a phone number listed at the bottom of any other response.

I have to agree with one thing in dipshit's letter is what you highlighted in yellow. His letter seem to be very vague in what he is going to do to stop this problem and why someone should support his effort.

Carl Levin's response was similar to Dingell's except Levin prefaced it by stating how much he supports hunting, then starts talking about how Obama's direction is the right one and we have to do this for the children. Normal drivel.

Snyder's response points out areas of interest to look at for prevention other than gun control, so far his is the only one I've received that does that. He makes it clear that while he's willing to look into the matter, he's more focused on improving the economy.

I like the fact that he's more worried about our economy than gun laws. That's why we elected him.

Is there a perception that he is anti-gun or pro-Obama? I'm not sure why the letter was written to Snyder to begin with, unless the author thinks Obama gives a shit about what the states want.

I'm not saying the original letter to Snyder was bad at all, it was well written, it just seems mis-directed.

The original letter to Synder was to encourage him to keep his pro-gun views, to show support that we do like to own the very guns the feds are trying to ban.
