1998 Jeep Wrangler TJ Sport
4.0L Inline six
96,000 Original Miles
Clean, unmolested, and extremely solid Body, Frame, Floors, Etc.!
I'm selling the Jeep for my Dad, who has been a Jeep guy since he bought his first brand new CJ in 1986 and had the time of his life with it. Due to minor back and knee injuries, he is looking to sell the Jeep to get into a Fullsize SUV that is a bit more comfortable, but still fun to drive!
This is a very nice Jeep! It runs, drives, and looks excellent. Engine runs smooth and very strong with no leaks, smoke, or knocks and holds great oil pressure. The transmission shifts great and as good as it did from the day it was new. 4WD works excellent, shifts in and out easily. Front end is tight with no clunking or looseness. It'll run 70mph on the expressway with no issue. Tires are excellent with at least 80% tread left, and all worn evenly. Brakes are good too, no pulsation, etc.
The body is one of the nicest original 1998's in the north, it is very difficult to find one in this condition that hasn't been repaired. This Jeep is extremely clean and solid, including the frame and floorpans. The frame is still mostly black with only very light areas of surface corrosion, absolutely no weak areas. There is some minor bubbling beginning on the tub under the driver's side door, and very small bubbling on the lower portion of the windshield frame - those are the only areas I can find! I'll let the photos speak for themselves.
He has owned the Jeep since early 2008, and it has only seen 3 Michigan winters. Most winters the Jeep was stored to keep it away from the road salt. During the winters that it has been driven, including this one, it is washed regularly.
In the time that he's owned it, we've replaced many maintenance items on the Jeep, including:
Front and Rear Brakes (Shoes, Pads, Rotors, Drums)
Tires / Wheels
Steering Gearbox (Due to a leak)
Windshield wiper motor
Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor
Transmission fluid / filter at around 70k - as a regular maintenance item, never any trans. issues!
JVC CD Player and Pioneer Speakers
Mirror relocation brackets
Smittybuilt Taillight Guards
Off-Roads lights mounted on the front bumper
Bumpers and Flares have been sanded with fine-grit and coated with bedliner
Probably a few more things I'm not remembering off hand...
I am a very honest seller, and I do not let people make the drive over to see a vehicle I'm selling and find any surprises - there are only a couple of very minor issues with the Jeep.
Sway Bar end links are broken
Heat blows warm, but not hot. Enough to make it comfortable and it'll defrost the windows fine, but the heater core will likely need replaced.
Has the typical 4.0L exhaust manifold leak
Has a heat shield that rattles at idle when cold, near the Cat.
Fuel gauge sometimes sticks at E when you start it, but always gets it's reading once you start moving, has been that way for 5 years now.
Rear seat is missing, should be able to find one easily enough.
Really can't think of a single thing else that I could call an issue.
Priced at $7200, will consider trades - He is interested in a 2000+ Chevy Tahoe. May look at others, but very unlikely he'd go for something other than a Fullsize 4WD SUV. He already has a pickup truck, and isn't actively looking to replace it.
Reply here or shoot me a PM with any questions, or you can text 616-498-1255, I can be difficult to reach by phone call, so please leave a message if you are not able to text. I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks!

Back up for sale once again - The past two times he's sort of had a change of heart before anyone had a chance to make a serious offer.
He still doesn't want to see it go, but this time he seems pretty excited to get into something more comfortable, but still fun. (See the lower part of the ad for possible trades)
Ad was updated and is current as of today, minus the photos which I will update as soon as I am able.
