Default Project Horse Play***It Lives***

This is far from done but I thought I'd post the progress so far.

Plans call for freshening the current drivetrain from the 79 which is:
460, warmed up.
C-6 with wide ratio planetaries, 4 disc forward clutch and torrington bearings.
205 twin stick.
D 44, Yukon shafts, super joints and ARB.
9" with detroit and crush sleve eliminator kit.
456 gears.
11-38-16 swampers.

Upgrades include:
Smaller lighter EB body with full cage.
Stretch EB wheel base 4" front and rear.
Hydro boost 4 wheel disc's.
Coil Overs and 4 links both ends.
Front fenders and grill to be removable as a unit with 6 pins.
Head lights and signals mounted to radiator support so it can be wheeled without the front clip.

The test fit. 460, C6, 205 in a 77 EB.

After finding out all the stuff I needed to cut move and fab it was build my own frame time.

I picked up a glass body kit from somebody elses project that ran out of ambition.

Doing the motor/body shuffle, to nestle everything in the best spot in the frame.

Mounting the doors and hard top to locate the windshield, and also take measurements for the cage.

At this point it's all sitting on wood blocks and held together with duct tape.

So far so good it's even got room for a radiator.

Hang the rag top for cage measurements so both tops will fit over it.

Time to start bending tube. Also a good time to utilize my 17 year old math whiz son's skill at figuring angles. Way easier than a computer.

Smoothie new seats mounted to the cage.

The fiberglass tub is not very square. The left door post leans in an inch and a half so the dash will not fit between the door posts. That means a custom dash is in order, I'll hang it from the cage. It will make the front cage legs straighter and eaiser to build

It always seemed silly to mount a body in rubber and install solid cage mounts right next to them. I just deleted the rubber mounts and made the cage mounts support the body.

I did put steel sleeves through the body that are a little longer than the thickness of the tub and will load the plates and sleeves with sylicone on final assembly to help with vibration and flex.

That is progress so far. Still to come is coilovers with link suspension and all the little stuff that takes longer than a guy thinks. The motor, trans, t-case, axles and tires will come out of my big one. This will be the fourth generation of "Four-Play", I've never sold a wheeler I just take the good parts and build a different one. This one will be different enough to earn a new name, "Horse Play".

It has taken one year to get this far, I hope to hit the dirt with it in 08.

Shit mold from the factory. It's a Kentrol kit from the late 80's. Several friends of mine used these Kentrol kits back in the mid late 80's and had similar issues, doors and fenders that were molded from junk yard parts with dents and rust spots molded into the new glass pieces, grill shells not formed wide enough for the hood to fit into. It took determination and lots of body work to make the old ones look nice. I'm not concerned with the fit and finish as this is a wheeler and not a show truck.

I edited original post to include build specs.

The only motor mod I'm considering right now is some kind of fuel injection. Not sure yet as this would be technology that I can't fix on the trail with a leatherman and duct tape. I'm still old school because that's what I know how to work on. The D 44 and 9" have held up to this power package on 38's under a 6500# bronco for two years now. My goal is to get the EB down around 4000# which should free up more power and put less strain on the parts.

I see no reason to add the extra weight of the 60's. I am running Yukon shafts and Super joints with an ARB in the front and when I say they held up I mean I put them in there in fall of 04 and have done nothing but grease the joints before a big outings and beat on them. A run like last weekend at miffys on stock shafts would have taken 2 or 3 new spicer shafts or until I got tired of changing them and parked the truck. My record is 4 shafts in one day.
