Damn, what a shame its been drilled and tapped. That looks like it might be factory checkering on the stock too. Would still make a nice squirrel rifle.

I had it appraised and the guy said, "he wanted to cry". He also said, "it is a beautiful deluxe grade gun with checkered wood. He told me that before the drilling for the scope and peep sight it would be worth approx $4000.00. With the alterations not so much. But still a very nice piece.

Condition is everything. Maybe low900rr can post a pic or 2 of his to show the condition.
I had mine checked out by an expert. If it was not for the original owner drilling for scope it would be worth an easy 4000 grand.
I have seen others like mine but in not as good shape. The wood was plain and the barrel was worn. That is why they only fetch a few hundred bucks.
The pics I have show the condition of the gun. I am open to offers. Thanks.

They are tough to find under $500. They are usually priced around $600-800.

well ok here goes...i would give you $400 for it because according to my gun buyers guide (bible) that model never came with a checkered stock it was made from 1932-1963 and only offered a plain pistol grip stock it came chambered in 22 short, long, long rifle unless it has the 24" octagon barrel and then it came chambered 22L.R. only, 22 short only or 22 W.R.F only. the drilling and tapping for the scope also takes away from the value of the gun. and if that is not the original stock that hurts as well. that could be a stock off from a model 90 with the upgrade stock and barrel.
i seen one or two of those at the gun show this past weekend and they both were going for 350-450 granted yours was in better shape than those but they weren't drilled and tapped either. and i'm sure i could have haggled on the price as most things there are a little overpriced.
don't get me wrong that is a nice firearm.

Hi thanks for the info.
From the searching I have done it was an option to get a checkered stock from the factory. Not sure if it was an add on from the factory or done after words. By the serial # it was made in 1940. It does have matching #'s in two locations and matching stamp marks also on barrel and next to it. It is a model 61, 22 S.L. OR L.R.
You are right in saying the drilling does affect the overall value.
I apprieciate your offer, I think it is a little low. I will hold out for a better offer and if nothing happens I just might take you up on it.
